Due to the ongoing pandemic, restaurants participating in this year’s festivities will, like last year, not be offering extended holiday business hours for Muslim customers who observe the tradition by fasting from dawn to dusk Instead, Dine After Dark is once again focusing on promoting halal- friendly options for carry-out and delivery via the organization’s online ordering portal, and encouraging safe holiday celebrations. “As we prepare for our second celebration of Ramadan under COVID-19 pandemic restrictions and protocols, we recognize the challenges still facing both our Member Businesses and our customers this holiday season,” says Dine After Dark’s President and Founder, Katherine Ashworth Brandt. “Therefore, we have made the difficult decision to modify Dine After Dark’s celebration of Ramadan for a second year in a row and forego offering extended holiday hours. Instead, we plan to support our participating restaurants and customers by offering halal carry-out and delivery options, so we can all celebrate Ramadan safely.” Luckily, notes Brandt, all of Dine After Dark’s participating Member Businesses have survived the challenges of COVID-19 thus far, and every restaurant that participated in the organization’s modified celebration of Ramadan last year is returning to do so again in 2021. They include: Agora (D.C. and Tysons); Avenue Café; Busboys and Poets (14th & V St NW; 450 K St NW; Anacostia; Hyattsville, MD.; and Shirlington, VA.); City Kabob & Curry House (D.C. and Arlington, VA.)
