SUL ROSS MIDDLE SCHOOL Advanced ELA Summer Reading 6th, 7th, & 8th grade 2021-2022 Students registered for Advanced ELA are required to complete summer reading, but all students are welcome to participate. Students will have a choice in the novel they select. Below are some titles to help you make a decision, however, you are not limited to the list. The novel chosen must be appropriate with the student’s upcoming grade level. The goal of the Summer Reading Program is to engage ALL students in rigorous, high-interest novels (chapter books) of THEIR choice. 1. Select a novel (chapter book) of your choice that is appropriate for your grade level from your home, public library, or anywhere you find books! You MAY NOT select a picture book, a book that you have read, or a book that was taught in your previous ELA classes. Summer reading novels need to be read by the end of August 2021. 2. What you should do when reading your book: a. Enjoy your book this summer! b. There are no required assignments until school starts c. Try to: keep a journal, record favorite quotes, summarize chapters, list unfamiliar vocabulary, and think of the overall lesson of your book. 3. When you start school, your teacher will provide you with specifics on book assignments for in-class completion. You will NOT be completing a major project over this novel.
