The project should address the past, present, GRID ORIENTED TO RIVER EAST WALL TO ELIZABETH QUAY 2100 FLOOD RISK GRID ORIENTATION AND 1888 SHORELINE and/or future conditions of the site. Response: The building exists on a dead space created by the intersection of Perth’s old and new city grids, which are oriented along the river. The irregular shaped site creates an angular terrain which dictates the building’s geometry. The ge- ometry also rejects the curved forms of Elizabeth Quay and the curving grid of the reclaimed land on which the site exists. The structure is permeable on ground level, inviting the public in and allowing the building to remain functional in future water lev- el rise. The building responds to the commercial, visually focused Elizabeth Quay through its thick, unbroken East wall. The building’s grid-like, partial- ly open, polycarbonate facade maximises light and brings sensory connection to the river. Interplay between light, materiality, solid, and void, create a complex sensory experience of water and light. Scanned by CamScanner The project is located on a 21 thousand square me- ter block with a gross plot ratio of 6. The high den- sity, luxury housing complex should be designed for a tropical climate, and based on principles from WOHA Architects. Response: The project consists of 720 luxury apart- ments, 25 thousand square meters of retail space and a 350 bay car park. In line with WOHA prin- ciples, the project aims to maximise green space and community interaction, with a total green plot ratio of 208% and a community plot ratio of 147%. The apartments’ design prioritizes privacy, river views, outdoor living, and communal space through shared luxury amenities. The project cre- ates a sense of community in a mass housing de- velopment by breaking the residential spaces into 6-storey blocks, each containing 36 apartments. Communal amenities are located on the levels be- tween apartment blocks. The design considers the tropical climate through inclusion of large outdoor living spaces, deeply inset and shaded windows, cross-ventilation and a facade louver system. Response: Proposed for the naturally formed site of the Pinnacles in Western Australia, the project enhances the sensory experience of the site and CONCEPT SKETCH DETAIL AXONOMETRIC change the mode in which people traverse the site. A dirt road for cars currently exists, creating a mode of experience which is both intrusive on the natural form of the site, and limiting to personal sensory experience. The project follows a new route through the site, encapsulating a more extensive scope and taking the visitor to areas which are less destructed by the original road. People are not allowed out of the structure to traverse and destruct the site. Vehicle movement is replaced by natural energy through manual pedaling, promoting an appreciation of the power of nature, the force which formed the Pinna- cles. A key element of the project is its elevation from the ground, and its thin, unimposing structure which minimises visual and physical impact on the site. Design should consider natural temperature control, focusing on northern light and ventilation. Response: The project consists of four apartments EAST ELEVATION VIEW and a shared ground plane. The form of each apart- ment exists around a central internal courtyard. Flow within the apartments is circular, conducted around these internal courts. Courtyards separate apartments into two wings based on levels of pri- vacy; a public wing containing living areas, and a private wing containing bedrooms and bathrooms. Operable sliding doors open up into the internal courtyards, allowing living areas to become indoor or outdoor areas. Living areas open to the outdoors on two sides. All living areas receive northern sun, with shaded windows and skylights which block summer sunlight. The courtyards act as light-wells, maximising light and ventilation.
