2020 ANNUAL REPORT The East Hampton Historical Society serves the residents and visitors of East Hampton by collecting, preserving, presenting, and interpreting the material, cultural, and economic heritage of the town and its surroundings. PROFESSIONAL STAFF Thank you for your continued support of the important work the MARIA VANN East Hampton Historical Society does for the community. In 2020, as we EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR all struggled through a worldwide pandemic, the Society forged ahead to CRISTOFF SHAY provide top-notch online and in-person programs for the community and SR. EXPERIENCE RICHARD BARONS The Society offered a short run of the dynamic Smithsonian exhibition, CHIEF CURATOR Water/Ways just prior to quarantine and quickly shifted to a digital format - providing mission driven programs MARIANNE DELLA CROCE such as Influential Women of East Hampton, Ask a Curator, Remember to Remember with Captain Cataletto, Create DIRECTOR OF VISITOR EXPERIENCE your Own Museum, and other adult and children’s programming. During the months of remote work and JACK DRIVER, SECURITY MANAGER through December 2020, we engaged over 50,000 people through our online efforts and made many new friends. Returning to the office in July, we again had to be creative under state gathering restrictions to ensure the safety of our friends and staff. We held a virtual Antiques & Design Show, an online auction through Doyle, and our Summer Lecture/Luncheon on Zoom with Tom Scheerer. We also marked the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment with an exhibit entitled, Votes for Women: A Portrait of Persistence and lit up our sites in gold and purple in recognition of this important moment in history. We also held timed house tours at the Moran Studio and Mulford Farm, created a program about the Hornbook on social media, and Amagansett Maritime Heritage Day went virtual. To close the year out, we offered holiday spirit through a new event, Aglow: A Holiday Experience at Mulford Farm and tours of the Victorian Christmas display at Moran Studio. We take it very seriously that we are YOUR historical Society. We thank you for traveling through 2020 with us and look forward to seeing you this season! Be well, Maria Vann Executive Director IT WAS LIKE ANY OTHER YEAR, OR SO WE THOUGHT... We were chosen as 1 of only 6 New York host locations for Smithsonian on Main St. traveling exhibit. We participated with 19 other Hamptons organizations to celebrate the arts. Rev. Our professional staff taught school children in a new way. ONLINE PROGRAMMING We created and shared many online programs throughout lock-down and beyond, including family programming. We hosted a virtual Dramatic Reading. We held several virtual book clubs. We hosted a Virtual Antiques & Design Show with swag bags for all our friends delivered directly to their homes. We hosted an online auction fundraiser. You are amazing and really appreciate everything you have done and for thinking of us during this crazy time." -Ambulance Corps member We also gave back in 2020. The Society donated 1200 pairs of medical booties to first responder on March 24, when the call for PPE first went out. The booties were from our yearly house tour and we were thrilled help out! As an organizational member of the Hamptons Arts Network (HAN), we helped struggling local artists. We donated 10 gift cards for dinner to local ambulance squad members as part of our summer online auction. We "adopted" East Hampton highschool Senior Emma Silvera...way to go Emma! #Votesforwomen CELEBRATING WOMEN: #19thamendment THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF #becauseofherstory THE 19TH AMENDMENT #purpleandgold #100years #suffrage We welcomed Smithsonian's Votes For Women exhibit on September 19. We were joined by the League of Women Voters who distributed voter registrations and information. On August 26th, we participated in a national lighting of buildings, Forward Into Light! Clinton Academy, Osborn-Jackson House, and Moran Studio windows glowed purple & gold. We created and presented Influential Women of the East Hampton Series, available on our Youtube page.
