"Let Him In" a sequel to "Let Me In" (2010) by J.D.D. First Draft 10-5-2021 Images from "Let Me In" used for illustration purposes. Note: This script is based on an interpretation of "Let Me In" which completely ignores the original Swedish movie and the novel on which it was based. SUMMARY OF PART 1 Immediately following the events of "Let Me In", Abby and Owen settle in a new city. After they use some creative means to secure an apartment for themselves, Abby teaches Owen how to kill, drain blood, and hide bodies without getting caught. They work together for now while he sharpens his skills. It will be years before he is big enough and strong enough to do this by himself. Owen urges Abby to choose victims that he perceives as being more deserving of death, such as bullies, violent gang members, and criminals, but Abby is content with killing whoever is most convenient. Owen's conscience bothers him. PART 2 Late afternoon. Downtown shopping center with an all-pedestrian pavement through the middle. Owen exits a store alone with a plastic bag containing whatever he bought. He turns, and walks toward home, but he is distracted by the sound of a man speaking loudly. Owen slows down, turns his head, and stops walking. He sees a young bearded man on the other side of the pavement holding a black book in the air while shouting things to people walking by. Owen can't quite hear what he's saying. Curious, he slowly starts walking across the pavement closer to the man. Owen notices another man and woman on the left handing small papers to people who pass by. As Owen gets closer, he starts to figure out what he's looking at. The bearded man sees Owen approaching just as he wraps up his "speech." The bearded man turns to the other man and says "You take over," whereupon the other man starts speaking the same way. The bearded man turns to Owen, who is now standing 5 feet away, staring at the book. OWEN: Are you a preacher? BEARDED MAN: I am today. OWEN: Is that a Bible? BEARDED MAN: Yes, it is. Owen is fascinated. His "religious" mother never bothered to read that Book or tell him to read it, let alone display it in public as some kind of beacon. OWEN: Have you read all of it? BEARDED MAN: Yeah, a few times. OWEN: Does it... Owen pauses to look around him as if he's afraid someone will hear him, then moves a little closer. OWEN: Uh... This might sound like a stupid question, but, uh... Does the Bible say anything about vampires? The bearded man smiles, amused by the question. BEARDED MAN: Uh... Well, not directly. It does say several times that you're not supposed to eat blood. OWEN: But what if you have no choice? What if you need blood to stay alive? BEARDED MAN: There's always a choice, just not always an easy choice. I mean... Murder is murder. It's pretty selfish for a vampire to think his life is more valuable than the lives of all the innocent people he kills. If someone turns you into a vampire, the only right thing to do would be to kill yourself... Owen looks down at the ground and struggles not to cry. BEARDED MAN: ...or throw yourself on the mercy of God and hope God will turn you back into a human. Owen quickly looks up at the man. OWEN: He can do that?? BEARDED MAN: God can do whatever He wants. Though I can't imagine a vampire being humbled enough to ask Him. OWEN: All you have to do is ask? BEARDED MAN: Well... you may not even have to ask if you ask Him to save your soul first. The Bible says when a person is saved, he becomes a child of God. And I don't think God would allow one of His kids to stay in that... "condition." Owens breaks eye contact and looks pensive. BEARDED MAN: You know what's ironic about your question? There is a time when it's okay to drink blood... but not literally. In John chapter 6, Jesus used "drinking His blood" as a metaphor for "believing on" Him, because the moment you ask Him to save you, His blood will come inside you and wash all the sins off of your soul... and then He seals you so you can never go to hell no matter how bad you screw up the rest of your life. What about you? Do you know where you're going when you die? Owen tenses up, and his mind flashes back to all the murders he participated in. He starts backing away from the man. OWEN: I have to go home. The bearded man pulls a tract out of his shirt pocket and moves closer to give it to Owen. BEARDED MAN: Hey, take this home and read it. If you have any questions later, our phone number's on the back. Owen takes it, briefly looks at the cover, and turns to walk away. BEARDED MAN: You know what? You can keep this Bible. I have more at home. Owen takes it. At a loss for words, he walks away. It's getting close to sunset. He starts running and doesn't stop until he gets in the apartment. He locks the door, catches his breath, throws his bag on the floor, looks at the bathroom door where Abby is still asleep inside, then hides the Bible in the bag and sits down on the floor in the corner to read the tract. PART 3 It's nighttime now. Abby, now awake, silently walks into the living room and sees Owen on his knees, facing the wall, with his head bowed, whispering something. ABBY: Owen. Owen, startled, turns his head back and looks at Abby. ABBY: What are you doing? Owen hesitates, afraid to answer. OWEN: Praying. Abby stares at him stoically for a few seconds. ABBY: Was that a joke? Owen slowly shakes his head "No." Abby looks slightly annoyed. ABBY: Why would you want to talk to God? You really think He wants anything to do with us?? OWEN: He does. He can help you. Abby's tone gets angry. ABBY: Help me WHAT? If He wanted to help me, He could have done it a long time ago. Owen gets teary-eyed. OWEN: He can change you back to the way you were, so you won't have to kill anymore. And He can clean your soul so you won't go to hell. He did it for me. I already asked Him. Look, this paper explains it. ABBY: Where did you get that? OWEN: A guy on the street. He was preaching. Abby rolls her eyes. ABBY: He wants your money, Owen. OWEN: He didn't ask for money. He gave me stuff. Look, he gave me this Bible. ABBY: You shouldn't have brought that in here. Owen sets the Bible down and picks up the tract again. OWEN: Look, this paper has parts of the Bible in it. It says Jesus is God. It says "the gospel of Christ...is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth..." It says "...Christ died for our sins... he was buried, and...he rose again the third day..." ABBY: Owen, shut up. OWEN: You can be "born again." Jesus let them kill Him so His blood can wash away our sins. He gives it away for free. He's "the author of eternal salvation". He will never leave you. ABBY: Owen, stop. OWEN: Everything you've done, and everything you will do, you can have it all forgiven right now. It says "...whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Abby uses her right hand to grab Owen by the neck and lift him into the air, choking him. Her eyes change color and her voice lowers to that familiar beastly growl. ABBY: I SAID STOP!! Owen is barely able to breathe in Abby's grip, but he manages to speak a few words. OWEN: I love you... Please... Ask Him. Abby's face turns from anger to sadness. The color in her eyes now rapidly fades in and out, as if she's fighting within herself. She finally sees herself as the monster she is, and not a victim. She can't even blame her violence on hunger this time. She's ready to kill Owen just because he hurt her pride. She lets go of Owen's neck, letting him fall to the floor where he coughs and strains to catch his breath as Abby walks backwards away from him. Her eyes are still fixed on Owen, but she senses someone else is watching from above. In a panicked whisper, she says... ABBY: Jesus, don't let me kill him. Save me. Immediately, Abby is lifted off the floor by some unseen power. She is paralyzed in mid-air, half-way between the floor and the ceiling. Her best efforts to move her limbs result only in trembling. Her body starts to bleed, more than ever before. But the blood is not dripping down. The blood is dripping UP, as if gravity was reversed. Blood runs right through her clothes and rises without even leaving stains. The blood seemingly disappears before hitting the ceiling. Owen is still on the floor, and he stares in horror, not sure if God is saving her or killing her. Owen doesn't understand now, but God is taking the stolen blood out of her. When it looks like her body is completely drained, skin white as snow, her eyes close, and millions of new blood droplets start to materialize out of thin air around her and are drawn into her body until the color returns to her skin. She is gently let down to the floor. Eyes still closed, seemingly exhausted, she falls on her knees. Owen rushes to catch her before she falls to the side. He gently lowers her limp body to the floor. She is laying on her back, and her eyes partially open. OWEN: Abby? Abby slowly turns her head to look at Owen. OWEN: Are you... human? ABBY: I... I don't know. Owen needs a test. He looks back at the kitchen, then looks at Abby, then rushes to the kitchen. Abby slowly lifts herself off the floor and stands up. Owen returns from the kitchen with a knife and puts the blade on his right hand. ABBY: Owen, don't. Without regard for the pain, Owen cuts his hand as hard as he can, throws the knife on the floor, and holds up his bleeding hand in front of Abby's face. She stares at it with a sympathetic look on her face for about 15 seconds... She smiles when she realizes she has no desire to drink his blood. She pushes his hand down out of her field of vision. ABBY: That's enough. Just wrap it up before you bleed to death. Owen smiles and hugs her. They hold each other while crying tears of joy. PART 4 Late morning, Owen wakes up and can't find Abby in the apartment. He runs outside and sees her standing in the yard, facing the sun with her eyes closed, smiling as she enjoys the warm feeling of the sunlight on her face (sunlight that would have killed her yesterday). Owen stands next to her and playfully imitates her posture. He doesn't have to say anything. She knows it's him without even looking. Without opening her eyes, she reaches toward him and holds his hand.
