As in, the tribe got a discussion channel and discounts at their merchandise until the end of the month. The art challenge was requested by Midjiwan himself and he requests people to make a sandcastle or any other sand structure. If you don’t have conditions to make something out of sand, you can do it with other sand-like materials like snow, dirt and magic sand. No drawings of sandcastles or video game sand buildings are going to be accepted. This sparked unsatisfaction in some members, because they found it too restricting and not allowing them to express themselves through their preferred artform. The contest will stay open until the end of the month and the three most voted submissions will not only get a steam key, but limited edition Polytopia stickers too. Oumaji also got a new lore text along with the tribe moon image that reveals more things about their history: "The Mausoleum at Ojibake is the final resting place of Mubehasi the Undefeated, the legendary leader of the Oumaji hordes and unifier of the Seven Oumaji Clans. The nearby tower holds the records of their mighty reign, and ensures that the memory of Mubehasi lives on in the hearts of all Oumaji.„ So, we learnt that Oumaji used to be split up in 7 clans and the name of the Oumaji Emperor’s Tomb monument, which was inspired by Egyptian pyramids. Ojibake, a town name that appears in the blurb might be the capital of Oumaji. Although it cannot be created using the Oumaji city name syllables in game, only Jibake is. Overall, people are very excited about the tribe month. A complete song of Oumaji theme is expected sometime during the month, as well as a gameplay challenge in the second half, to only name the Oumaji related events. Besides those, this August will be one of the greatest months in the history of Polytopia, with the Steam edition releasing next week, and also the second Tribe Leader Elections sometime during the second half. Aquazine 2020 | 31 | Page 3 Tamarissz Vexil Wonders Qatar and other emirates Qatar is an emirate state on the Arabian peninsula, rich in oil like others. Its flag is known for being the longest national flag, since its ratio is 11:28, making it the only flag more than twice as long as it is tall. It actually used to be even longer, 11:30, but they changed it in 1971. The design includes a white stripe, symbolising peace, spearated from the maroon area by a line with 9 edges, they signify Qatar's inclusion as the 9th member of the 'reconciled Emirates‚ of the Persian gulf. The maroon part, sometimes described as brown or purple, used to be red in fact. Qatar used to buy white cloth from Bahrain and dye it red locally, but due to the bad quality and the heavy desert weather, the flag's colours were prone to being tinted darker by the sun, and eventually, the darker version became official. This colour is defined as ‚Qatar maroon’ by the Qatari government, which is led by the Emir, making the country an emirate. There are 9 emirates in total: Qatar, Kuwait and 7 in the United Arab Emirates. All of them are pretty simple and used to be plain red. Tamarissz Tunicorner Aquazine survey results Last week we made a Google survey to ask the readers how they relate to the Aquazine, and here are the results: 9 people answered so far, which is less than I expected, but it is something. What part is your favourite? Vexil Wonders is the favourite of most people, 3 people chose it, the second is Polytopia lore articles with 2 people. What part do you dislike or not read? The least liked/read article is Fan-made tribes apparently, with 3 people marking it, even though half of the people didn’t mark anything and said „None of them”. What should we include more of? Most answerers said it should be longer overall, so sorry, this one is actually shorter, we’ll try harder next time. More pictures is also a popular option, so here you go: What should we include less of? „Nothing, it’s good as it is right now” dominates the field here. Should the Aquazine be more or less Polytopia related? Neutral answers are the absolute majority here too, with „Less” being second with 1/3 votes. Should it be more focused on the members of the community? Is an obvious yes, seeing the answers. So they will be mentioned more in releant contexts. Should we add any new article type? Basically everyone checked on „Weekly fanart gallery, so expect to see it in future Aquazines. That’s all. As a bonus, we can look at statistics about how many reads each previously posted newspaper got: The first one above 120, the second only half as much, then the third above 190 (because it was advertised on reddit, otherwise it would have somewhat around 40 I assume) and the latest one only 30. This decreasing tendency is really demotivating so we are looking for more ways to spread it, suggestions are welcome! Aquazine 2020 | 31 | Page 6 gamesRme123 Coelacanths The coelacanth is a prehistoric fish. Once thought to be extinct, they were rediscovered in 1938 of south Africa by Marjorie Courtenay- Latimer. It is a prime example of a lazarus taxon, where a species dissapears from the fossil record but reappears later on. Coelacanths are piscivorous drift hunters. They wait and are blown around by ocean currents, eating any fish that come in their path. They are covered in cosmoid plates that protect them from most attacks. The coelacanth has large eyes that are adapteed for the low light levels but a smaller mouth. The coelacanths use special fins allowing them to rapidly spin 360 degrees. These fish have been recorded swimming upside down and vertically. Aquazine 2020 | 31 | Page 8 Lost Comet Vienna before WWI Vienna, currently the capital of Austria and formerly the capital of Austria- Hungary, was also the city, where, in 1913, several of the most influential men of the 20th century were present. Leon Trotsky, who would later be one of the leaders of the Russian Revolution, wrote, “I was sitting at the table, when the door opened with a knock and an unknown man entered. He was short… thin… his greyish brown skin covered in pockmarks… I saw nothing in his eyes that resembled friendliness.” That was the description of Greek man Stavros Papadopoulos, which was the name on the fake passport. That man’s real name was Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugavishili, also known as Koba and later as Joseph Stalin. While Trotsky and Stalin were on the run, the future leader of the Nazis drew inspiration from the local anti-semitic opinions. Adolf Hitler had gotten rejected from the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts twice, his dreams of becoming an artist squashed. Aquazine 2020 | 31 | Page 8 Tamarissz Marinoo Marinoo is the first fan made tribe ever in existence. They are based on an extra-terrestrial culture, and even though their origins are not human, they are considered to be a human tribe because they have no special features and they start with mining. Marinoo was created by Sebom. Appearance • Color: light violet • Head: green • Land: light grey, resembles the surface of the Moon • Mountains: green, with violet caps • Fruit: Moon watermelon • Forests: green and violet tentacles or marshmellows • Their Catapult is also grey. Marinoo terrain concept art Alternative forest designs Clearly this tribe is not so detailed and wouldn’t stand foot by today’s standards but in the time of the first fan made tribes, it served as inspiration for all others to make their own concepts a reality.
