After leaving school, I made cocktails in a reputable hotel restaurant overlooking vineyards in an estate I’d never been to before. I was a scruffy teenager with no real clue about what I wanted from this world. The time I spent down on the Mornington Peninsula taught me about pride and excellence at work while showing me that people are willing to give chances to those with the right attitude. After a few months, I decided to take what I had learned back to Sydney, and I began working for a large hospitality group at a couple of their restaurants. I realised how enormous the industry was, and although first intimidated, I found myself wanting more. Attention to detail and accuracy was necessary, and I began to pick up things that shaped my personality and started moulding my perspective on what hospitality meant. I fell in love with the balancing act. So much was happening all at once - although there was order to the chaos. I went abroad to travel solo for some months and started understanding the sheer size of the world, the cultures, and its history, and on my return home, I was unsure of my next steps. At 19 and having gained a lot in just a few years, I was without a job and at a crossroads. Soon enough, in my pursuit of work, I was invited to interview at Keighery Hotel for an Assistant Manager role. I was very uncertain of my skills but received a call-back and was given the opportunity. I was incredibly fortunate to be met by a team so devoted to my progression and growth. It is with Redcape Hotel Group that I believe my most significant achievements and development have been made. The support and encouragement from my mentors enriched my personal and professional qualities, strengthened my views of the industry, and reassured me of the journey I am on. At Keighery Hotel, I assisted with the launch of Publinc Communities by enlisting two charities that strongly represented the staff and community of the local area. We helped raise a collective $55,000 through local engagement and staff initiatives. Throughout this time, we also guided the venue through the first COVID-19 lockdown, successfully reopened with a complete and sound team, and developed a healthy relationship with local police, licensing officers and Liquor and Gaming NSW, while achieving a top 5 rank in NSW Gaming Venue Rankings. INTERESTS Rugby Union & Rugby League | Captained the school 1st Grade Rugby Tour - Canada & USA Motorcycles Travel | Europe, United Kingdom, Asia, New Zealand and North America Fashion & Music Dining out & Nightlife The accomplishments at Keighery Hotel allowed me to join the acquisition of Gladstone Hotel, where I assumed a senior role in the team and implemented and operationalised several procedures and standards across the multifaceted venue. As we entered another lockdown, I joined the Learning and Development Innovations team, where I sourced, organised, and conducted training and engagement webinars across the group to upskill staff and promote an accelerated reopening. At this point, I was also completing a Leadership Management course in Workplace Leadership Essentials. These achievements led me to assist with the acquisition and settlement of All Seasons Bendigo, where I was tasked with training and adapting Redcape policies and procedures to fit the large- scale venue and ensure a smooth adoption into the group portfolio. Earlier this year, I embarked on my most significant journey, one the scruffy teenager would never have imagined. After five years of industry work, I decided to head back to school and study full-time for a Bachelor of Business - Hospitality Management at Torrens University Australia, where I have been accepted for a hospitality scholarship granted by the University. I intend to use this, and my reputation built at Redcape, to pursue a senior leadership role within the group in hopes of one day helping others on their journey to excellence. LIFE AS AN ASSISTANT MANAGER My role as an Assistant Venue Manager at Gladstone Hotel has been, and continues to be, a challenging and rewarding career choice. I love being part of a bigger, multifaceted team and am proud to have the chance to work with like-minded, passionate hospitality people who continue to drive me each day. With a strong foundation of trust amongst peers, colleagues and customers, my team can connect with many on a deeper interpersonal level, enriching and organically creating an exceptional customer experience. My purpose as a leader is to support and champion all success around me; this is my crux. It’s a gratifying sensation to see professional and personal achievements in a shared, collaborative environment. VISION FOR GLADSTONE HOTEL Gladstone Hotel will continue to develop an inclusive culture that is adaptive to change, encourages diversity and seeks to question the status quo. I envision Gladstone Hotel as the heart of the Dulwich Hill community. With a reach that can touch so many, Gladstone has every opportunity to evolve into the ‘go-to’ pub for fantastic food, delicious beverages, and welcoming entertainment. This can be achieved through a forward-thinking approach to customer-centricity and innovative utilisation of technology. Gladstone Hotel I strive for the team and myself to leave a positive, caring footprint in the community by giving back where possible and continuing to support the local causes, charities and businesses for a unified community. Through Publinc Communities, we have contributed to Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation and The Man Walk, a men’s mental health foundation, as well as developing future partnerships with Sunnyfields Dulwich Hill, our local disability service centre, Addiroad, a local food relief initiative and Glebe Dirty Reds, a local footy club supported by many locals. My vision for the Gladstone Hotel is to deliver industry-leading customer service experiences while enriching and enhancing the lives of our team. CAREER ASPIRATION With a love for hospitality, people, and businesses I aspire to continue to work within Redcape while I complete my Bachelor of Business (hospitality management). Once I complete my Bachelor degree I want to continue to gain the knowledge and tools I need to become a licensee so I can continue to expand my skills with the goal to become an Area Manager in the future.
