The Foundational doctrine of Christ Foundation class 8 What are the doctrines of Christ? Certain truths contained in the Word are often referred to as the foundational principles of the doctrine of Christ. They are fundamental to faith and form the foundation of a sound Christian experience. Hebrews 6 vs 1 - 2 Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, [ a ] and of faith in God, 2 instruction about cleansing rites, [ b ] the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. To God’s standard, any doctrine that in any disagrees with these fundamental doctrines is a false doctrine. Therefore, they are a good reference point for judging any doctrine. Repentance from dead works Its is essential for a Christian to realize that they is justified by faith. What they did before receiving their salvation is no relevant to God. As Apostle Paul describes it, dead works are rituals that the people of the Old Testament would do to come back to God. • Hebrews 9 vs 11 - 14 The life of a believer is a life of faith, and God has called us to live in a realm of faith. As the children of God, we walk by faith and not by the things we can see. Living a life of faith shouldn’t fall under the bracket of things that are difficult to a believer since we were born in faith. As a believer it is your responsibility to develop your faith by hearing about the word of God, like you are doing right now! • Hebrews 11 vs 1 - 6 • Romans 1 vs 17 • 2 Corinthians 5 vs 7 Faith towards God Abraham - The Father of Faith The word baptize is derived from the Greek word ‘baptize’ which means to ‘immerse completely into’. There are two types of baptisms: a. Baptism of the Holy Spirit (New Birth) • 1Corinthians 12 vs 13 • Ephesians 4 vs 4 - 5 b. Baptism through water • Romans 6 vs 3 - 5 • 1 Peter 3 vs 21 Doctrine of Baptism Jesus Christ being baptized by John the Baptist Doctrine of laying on of hands The main reason for the laying on of hands is for the impartation of grace upon and individual. Four scenarios of the laying on of hands: a. Healing • Mark 16 vs 18 b. The infilling of the Holy Spirit • For those that are yet to receive the Holy Spirit c. Impartation of spiritual gifts • 1 Timothy 4 vs 14 d. Ordination into the ministry • Acts 13 vs 1 - 3 God never intended for men to dead; although it is through disobedience that death came upon all men. Death reigned until the obedience of Christ. Now Christ has abolished death and has given us the power to choose life! • John 5 vs 28 - 29 • 1 Thessalonians 4 vs 13 - 16 • 1 Corinthians 15 vs 19 Doctrine of Resurrection from the dead Resurrection of Lazarus Doctrine of eternal judgement There are two types of judgement, one for believers and one for unbelievers. a. Christians Judgement for rewards. The judgement seat of Christ is where Christians receive rewards for the deeds they performed while of earth • Romans 14 vs 10 • 1 Corinthians 3 vs 11 - 16 b. Judgement for unbelievers The great white throne of judgement is when non - Christians will be judged for not accepting Christ as their Lord and savior. • Revelations 20 vs 11 - 15 • 1 Corinthians 6 vs 2 - 3 Doctrine of sanctification This means ‘consecration’ or separations from others for a special use. It is twofold. The first fold is separation of the believer from the world when he gets born - again. This is instantaneous upon receiving Christ. This is when God takes you out of the world. The second fold is the ultimate separation of the believer unto God. This is when the world is taken out of the person. It is your responsibility to receive the word into you. Scriptural Reference Doctrine of Sanctification • 1 Thessalonians 5 vs 23 • 1 Corinthians 1 vs 30 First Fold • 1 Corinthians 6 vs 11 • Hebrews 10 vs 10 Second fold • John 17 vs 17 Doctrine of Holiness Holiness is our positioning - where we are in Christ. When we have an offering, while it is still with us it is ours, but when we drop it at the alter of God it belongs to Him. Holiness has nothing to do with what you do, it is who you are. What makes you holy is that now your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost who dwells in you. You are no longer your own. You were bought with a price. • 1 Corinthians 6 vs 19 Homework This week the homework task will be to pick 2 types of Doctrines to and share what you learnt from them! DUE DATE: FRIDAY, 14 OCTOBER
