Easy DIY Begonia Terrarium Prepared by: www.etsy.com/shop/ChristineHasHobbies 1) Large clear bowls and glass jars work great for DIY terrariums. I personally use the following: 1. Glass Jar and Lid (Target, craft stores, thrift, etc.) 2. Two plastic bowls stacked to form a “bubble” (Dollar Tree, etc.) To form a seal, wrap edges with plastic wrap or tape. 2) Fill the bottom with a small drainage layer. (You can skip this step if you don't wish to have a drainage layer.) I use the following: 1. Clay pebbles 2. “Hydrostones” (while this is a “special” stone for moisture control, I imagine regular coarse perlite would behave similarly) 3) Add substrate for a “planting layer” 1. Sphagnum moss (dried and rehydrated or live, either works) 2. Soil w/ perlite Some of my terrariums: 1) Clay pebble drainage layer, sphagnum moss planting layer 2) No drainage layer, sphagnum moss and soil planting layer 3) Clay pebbles drainage layer, soil w/ perlite planting layer 4) Hydrostone drainage layer, sphagnum moss planting layer
