BIG BANG MAG © BIG BANG MAG 2021 STILL WE RISE MAR 2021 SOUTH AFRICA NEW ERA FOR THE YOUTH C O N T E N T S 01 - 04 05 - 06 07 - 08 09 - 10 11 - 12 13 - 14 KING KRAB 01 Lucas & Adam King Krab is the story of two brothers from Marseille, France. They grew up in the 90s, surrounded by their father’s vinyl's, tapes and Afro - American ‘Compact Disc’. While being teenagers, Lucas and Adam started to play the guitar and the bass, echoing back to the music they grew up with. Even though the brothers had a late debut, their ardour quickly took them to joining jam sessions in Marseille. While Adam added playing the piano to his skills, it all fell into place when Lucas debuted singing. With their first demo it became clear that writing and composing together was natural. Having a brotherly group was then the obvious next step. King Krab was born Their first free Ep Reworx out in late 2014, stands as a testimony for their musical inspiration: from Al Green to Justin Timberlake, D’Angelo, Bill Withers or even the King of Pop. The Krab touch is made from uncluttered restyled hits. With the first opus called « All in », the siblings show their desire to truly and sincerely open up. Back in 2010, when they were trying to find a name during a rehearsal, Adam kept his bass on, and was laying his hand over the strings and he was running his fingers on the fretboard from time to time. His long fingers made Lucas think about a crab leg, so he simply said “king crab” as they needed a name. Later they changed the spelling to KING KRAB , to not be mistaken with the animal on the search engines. At the beginning they were trying to joke around seafood stuff when making visuals, and logo, but they quit doing it very fast, because it was a little bit too childish In 2012, they only had one song written, they were granted an opportunity to record it in a professional studio, in Paris, a few weeks after winning a cover contest on the internet. At this place, there were 2 floors with one studio on each. At the lowest floor, they met Adam Bastard, who was running his studio and listening to what they were doing in the studio upstairs. 2 months after their session, he reached out to them on Facebook, he wanted to know if they had more demos. Which they sent to him a few things which they had left on the hard drive. He loved it and offered to produce an album with for them, as he was running his own label, Uptone Records. From there, they went to Paris on a regular basis to record the album and thanks to Adam they were able to meet some of the best musicians there to help them. The 1st Album named « ALL IN » came out in 2016. 02 03 When it comes to their song writing process, they start by making a beat on Logic, then add a chord progression, and a bass line to have the basic material. from there, they try to catch a feeling, an emotion out of it and then they work on the lyrics. simple things but poetic, clever, and down to earth. They mostly talk about what they know Which includes r elationships , childhood/teenage memories and love. Growing up in the late 80s and early 90s, they grew up listening to pop legends from that era. Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, Prince, George Michael. they loved bands like Earth Wind & Fire, Kool & the Gang, Maze ft. Frankie Beverly, George Benson, George Duke, Marcus Miller, to name a few. But all of this was before they got into D’Angelo (quite late, actually, around 2003 ). “The album Voodoo changed our lives. from that time, we knew that we wanted to do music like this”. That’s how they got deeper into the roots of soul music. with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, James Brown and Bill Withers, what they loved from the 2000s was also the Justin Timberlake/ Pharell Williams/ Timbaland productions era. And today they are following musicians like Thundercat , Louis Cole, Troy Kingi , Tom Misch , John Mayer, there’s so many people making great music that inspires them. 04 King Krab states that if they could change anything in the industry they would most certainly change the speed, The whole system goes so fast, today you have to release some music every 6 months to not be forgotten, how can you think about an album concept in 6 months. People don’t care about albums anymore, they listen to one song and switch to another. The way to conceive music at the very beginning is completely different now, they have to be fast and make efficient music which can be very frustrating. They are currently finishing their second album. the release can be expected around Fall of 2021. they will be streaming live concerts when the album is out. Her cousins would be in one room playing around freestyling to different beats and she would hear them and one day she decided to try it too and it didn’t go as planned, she then started writing rap lines which she forever bodied and came back to spit the lines for her cousins and they said she should keep going with it so she wrote more raps and started watching other rappers her age with her mother which helped her carve her path with guidance from family and peers. She didn’t keep it going after that though and ended up quitting music and then it just all came back when she turned [10] years and she started to really get passionate about it. A s a little kid she always loved music and loved listening to music but she never knew that she had the skill to write till age 7 . 06 Usually her creative thoughts come early in the morning. She starts her day off with coffee or tea to get some energy then she listens to a few beats and whatever beat suits her mood for the day she writes on it. “I get in the zone to make my songs by first listening to a beat and just thinking about how that beat makes me feel and then lyrics just come to me”. Being on the internet and being able to post my stuff on Instagram and YouTube and getting positive feedback has actually made me want to keep going and keep spreading the positive message I’m trying to spread because I notice I have so many people rooting for me and so many people listen to my music and get help from it. but I do feel that the internet is the whole reason why I’m at the level of skill I’m at right now because if it wasn’t for being on the internet and watching other rappers and getting to listen to other artists I wouldn’t have been able to study other artists or look up to anyone when I was younger She just released a track and a music video featuring Quavo from the trio group Migos which has been doing great on the charts. She hopes to have a full on music career with her current release, she wants to tell her story to the world and continue spreading positive energy with through her music, her end goal is to make a name for herself as a unique artist. BABYBRYN 07 He started his journey as dancer, then later decided to pursue his journey as rapper and he is currently working at InCityInk and he is the founder/owner of TattooMusic , H e attended hip hop dancing lessons at S tate theatre, as soon as classes were done most people around him were busy with rap battles and he always found it interesting how they would get vocal on an instrumental or beat box, which led to him downloading beats and started writing on them to perfect his craft and since then he hasn't looked back. Babybrryn’s muse when it comes to creating contents comes from the likes of Drake and many more, he states that he is not knee deep on collaborating with other musicians yet, as he is also on his come up unless if the product is really dope then he is down to collaborate. 08 Most artists focus more on music and other entertainment sections but when it comes to Babybrryn he would definitely be in college pursuing education. I’m not really an athlete, I struggled when it came to my academics, but I managed to study the game. I think people should take interest in learning cause that definitely enriches their skills on learning how to survive. It’s great to become successful but you must maintain success by studying further to secure a better spot in life for you and your people. The future looks bright for the upcoming artist as he is set to drop more content this year. With a good response from his peers and other people that support him, his boss even plays his music to his famous friends and clients to help him get to the top. Leonorah Moyo 10 When it comes to accomplishments she states that there are many lessons she still has to learn. I mean I am 23 years old so I still have a lot of to see and overcome, (maybe this might be my Jordan year). Although I must say with a tough upbringing living through poverty and having hopes for a better life, I think that’s what pushed me to go after my dreams. To live a little because life is so short you know. She draws inspiration from her being alive, which gives her the momentum to grind harder and continue to strive, with her being an introvert , it’s comfortable for her to communicate in this form She also loves observing and re - enacting by doing so she gets to give out a message to many at one go. With that being said, she states her thoughts on how being alive and going through every obstacles day to day is her current biggest accomplishment.
