WESTON COLLEGE LEVEL 3 EXT DIPLOMA IN CREATIVE MEDIA PRODUCTION & TECHNOLOGY (Unit 4 ) Project Proposal CENTRE NAME & NUMBER WESTON COLLEGE – 50645 CANDIDATE NAME & NUMBER NAME: William Greville ULN: 7932355604 PROJECT PROPOSAL TITLE AND DATE Game Prototype / Animation / Dance LAUNCHED ON 2 6 th February , 202 5 MAIN AREA OF ACTIVITY Games & Animation Production Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology Unit 4 Project Proposal Candidate Name William Greville Candidate Number 7932355604 Pathway Games & Animation Production Project Title The S TEORRA Section 1: R ationale My last 3 projects have introduced me to the world of Game development, and I have learnt a lot about design choices, concepts and idea generation. As each project progressed, I learned the significance of idea generation and how the first idea I created isn’t always going to be the best. Going forward with Year 1 FMP, I wish to take my newly acquired 3D modeling skills to a whole new level with the intention of learning character design, and more importantly, animation. Considering I began this course with no knowledge of the game industry, I believe I have come a long way, and I wish to display this through this project, by showcasing my skills in modelling , creative writing and environmental design. In my own time across the last year, I’ve published my own book and have always had a strive to tell my story in whatever medium possible, books being the easiest up until now. However, I now have the game designing skills to make my story in the form of a game, which is what I am doing for this FMP (showcasing a small part of my series in the form of an environment). For me, the environment is the key to a story, and that is my most important part for me to improve on, because I’ve already got the creativity and writing capabilities for this project, and making an environment is the focus for me to d evelop and grow as a developer. Section 2: Project Concept I in tend to make a 3D, circular display room as the entrance to a long forgotten governmental exhibition. This almost ‘ theme - park styled ’ museum is set in the Cosmos, the higher plane of existence where all universes originate , and acted as a beacon for entertainment for the Cosmodian species where they could go with their families to learn about the origins of their all - powerful leaders, the Stars. However, after years of neglect and underfunded dreams, The STEORRA was shut down and abandoned, preserved in time. The STEORRA stands for The Stars’ Time Executing Our Refined Rank ing Array, acting as an abbreviation to the purpose of the exhibition , to inform the public of how their government came to be. The player acts as a guest at the park, being invited over by a new friend who works in the higher ranks of the Star council , she tells you that people aren’t allowed near the premises, but you’ve been given a pardon for the purpose of revealing some truth about the Stars. However, once you enter the first wide entrance, you quickly discover that an old robotic statue of your friend remains active in the center. Swishing its arms and looking rather majestic in the dim sky light The room will be open and filled with little details that add more lore into the environment, showing how long it’s been abandoned and adding a realistic feel to it. I plan for the models to be made in Maya, textured in Substance Painter, and built into an environment in Unreal Engine. I wish to create foley sound effects edited in Adobe Audition and for any 2D art to be made in Photoshop. For my written part of the project, I will be making it in Microsoft Word with a designed front cover from the completed environment. I do not intend to stick to a specific poly count. Section 3: Evaluation I plan to evaluate my work consistently by using a weekly journal that I’ll update every day to ensure I fully reflect on what I do throughout the FMP. I intend on fully describing my decisions and why I made them within this journal to allow myself to fully comprehend my thoughts. This process will be a summary of the week, whilst not dismissing any crucial details and processes taken . I want it to be a time for me to have an opinion on what I’ve done so far and how effective I believe my work has been, this analysis will then let me understand where and how I need to improve going forward. For the final week of evaluation, I will be doing a full evaluation of my product, assets and general processes taken to get to where I end up. This will include me analyzing and comparing assets and where I could imp rove if I had more time to complete the project. Proposed Research Sources and Bibliography (Harvard Format) For my project, I will need to conduct a lot of research to allow me to do the things I wish to do, so I will need to research the following technical skills: • How to model 3D clothes • How to animate 3D models and import them into Unreal Engine • How to trigger character animations in Unreal Engine • How to trigger models to disappear in Unreal Engine • How to trigger changes in lighting in Unreal Engine • How do others animate cogs Visual Research will include: • How have artists combined machinery and magic ? • What does machinery look after years of weathering? • How do games design levels ? • What styles are typically seen in fantasy? Audio Research: • How do gears sound together? Potential Research for Unreal Engine that I may need to revise from previous projects : • How to trigger sound cues • How to teleport a player • How to fade audio via distance • How to animate a door Source Bibliography: Model ing clothes: 3Dex (20 18 ).
