In the world of game and interactive application development, sound is an essential element that cannot be overlooked when creating an immersive and impactful user experience. With the growing demand for rich and diverse sound libraries, FreesoundHub offers you a smart solution that saves time and effort while giving you full control over your audio journey within your project. Open FreesoundHub Open it via Window > Xenora Studio > FreesoundHub or quickly with Ctrl + G (Windows) / Cmd + G (Mac). Sound Search The Sound Search feature in FreesoundHub is the core functionality that allows you to find sounds from Freesound.org directly within Unity. You can type any word or phrase into the search box, and related results will appear, with options to listen, download, or add sounds to your favorites. When you open the tool, you’ll find the search field at the top where you can enter the name of the sound, its type, or any keyword, then press the “Search” button or hit Enter on your keyboard. The tool sends a search request to Freesound.org via their AP I and displays the results in a list below the search field. You can also use filters to narrow down results, such as choosing sound duration or sorting results by newest, most downloaded, or other criteria. There are buttons to switch categories (e.g., Music, Sound Effects, Natural Sounds) to help you quickly find the type of sounds you want. Each search result shows the sound name, duration, ID number, and control buttons like play (listen), download, add to favorites, or view more details. To download a sound, simply click the download button, and the file will be saved in your project’s desi gnated downloads folder. The search feature also supports loading more results via a “Load More Results” button at the bottom if additional results are available. Search history is saved automatically and accessible through the “History” window. In summary, the Sound Search feature in FreesoundHub makes finding the right sounds for your project easy and fast, with filtering, listening, downloading, and favorites management all directly inside Unity. Download Folder Setup To download sounds using FreesoundHub in Unity and save them to a specific folder, follow these steps: When you search for sounds within the tool, a list of results appears, each with a Download button usually indicated by a downward arrow icon. Clicking this button will start downloading the sound file directly into the download folder you set in the tool’s settings. To set or change the download folder: 1. Open the Settings window by clicking the Settings button at the top of the FreesoundHub window. 2. Locate the Download Folder option. 3. Click the Browse button next to the field and choose the folder on your computer where you want to save the sounds. It’s recommended to select a folder inside your Unity project’s Assets directory. 4. Click Save to apply the new settings. After setting the download folder, every sound file you download will be automatically saved there. You can access these files via Unity’s file explorer or through the Audio Editor window inside the tool. Important Note The download folder must be located inside your Unity project’s Assets folder so that Unity automatically recognizes and imports the new audio files into your project. Whether you're browsing search results, sound groups, or your favorites list, you’ll notice a button labeled "Details" or marked with an inf o icon ( ⓘ ) next to each sound. Clicking this button opens a centered popup window displaying all the important information in a clear and organized layout. At the top of the window, you’ll see the sound’s name in bold, followed by its unique ID used on Freesound.org. Below that, you’ll find the duration of the sound (in seconds or minutes), along with its status whether it’s currently favorited, downloaded, or being previewed. If the sound includes a description from Freesound it will be shown in a dedicated section to help you better understand the nature and potential use of the sound. This window isn’t just for viewing information it also includes quick - action buttons like Add to Favorites, Remove from Favorites, Play Preview, and Download. All controls are available in one place to make your workflow smoother and faster. The Description feature is especially helpful when you want to review a sound in detail before using it in your project, or if you're comparing multiple sounds. Simply click the ( ⓘ ) button next to any sound and you ’ ll instantly see everything you need in one clean, easy - to - read interface. Favorites The Favorites feature in FreesoundHub allows you to save the sounds you like or frequently use, making them easily accessible at any time while working in Unity. As you browse search results or explore sounds within the tool, you'll notice a star icon ( ☆ or ★ ) next to each sound. Clicking this icon adds the sound to your personal favorites list, and the star turns gold ( ★ ) to indicate it has been favorited. You can open the Favorites window at any time by clicking the Favorites button at the top of the tool. This will display a list of all the sounds you’ve marked as favorites. From this window, you can preview any sound or remove it from your favorites by clicking the ( ✕ ) button next to it. The Favorites feature is especially useful when working on a project that requires collecting a set of standout or frequently used sounds. It saves you from having to search again and again. Additionally, favorite sounds are accessible in other windows, su ch as when adding sounds to sound groups, making your workflow more efficient. All changes to your favorites are saved automatically. Even if you close Unity or restart your computer, your favorites list will remain intact ensuring your most important sounds are always just a click away. Search History The Search History feature in FreesoundHub helps you keep track of all the keywords or phrases you’ve previously searched for within the tool, allowing you to quickly revisit them without retyping. Every time you perform a new search, the term is automatically saved to your personal history. You can access this history by clicking the History button at the top of the FreesoundHub window. When the history window opens, it displays a list of your past searches sorted from newest to oldest. Inside the history window, each entry has a Search button that lets you instantly rerun the search with a single click, and a ✕ button to remove the term from your history if it ’ s no longer needed. At the bottom, there ’ s also a Clear History button that lets you delete the entire history at once if you prefer. Your search history is saved locally and persists even after closing Unity or restarting your computer. This feature is especially useful for repeating frequent searches, comparing similar sounds, or revisiting search terms during long - term projects — saving you time and streamlining your workflow. Sound Groups The Sound Groups feature in FreesoundHub is a powerful, advanced window designed to help you organize your audio library into custom groups. Clicking the Sound Groups button at the top opens a large, split interface with two main panels: left and right. Left Panel – Group Management This section is dedicated to managing your groups. You can search for a group by name or tags, and sort them by name, creation date, total duration, or number of sounds. To create a new group, simply type a name and click Create, or use one of the ready - made templates like Music, SFX, or Ambient for quick setup. Below, you’ll see a list of all created groups, each displaying total sounds, duration, tags, and creation date. Right clicking a group opens a context menu with options to select, duplicate, rename, or delete the group permanently. Right Panel – Group Content This section shows the contents of the selected group. When you click a group on the left, the right panel updates to show the group name and number of included sounds. At the top, you’ll find buttons to Add Sounds, Duplicate Group, and Delete Group. Below, there are bulk actions: Select All, Clear Selection, and Remove Selected. Each sound in the group is listed with its name, ID, duration, and action buttons Play Preview, View Details, and Remove. You can select multiple sounds using Ctrl or Shift, or drag and drop them to reorder within the group. Right clicking a sound opens quick options: play, view details, or remove from group. Clicking Add Sounds opens an advanced sound selector showing all available audio (downloaded, favorited, or previously imported). You can search, multi - select, and add sounds with one click. Each group supports Tags to help with classification and searching. Tags can be added or removed from the edit window, with built - in suggestions like music, sfx, ambient, game, loop, and more. You can also import groups from JSON files or export your entir e group library to back it up or transfer to another project. All changes to groups or sounds are automatically saved to a local file, so even if you close Unity or restart your computer, your groups will be fully restored. At the top of the window, you’ll always see live stats: total groups, total sounds, and total duration. The Sound Groups feature gives you full, professional control over organizing your sound library. It saves you a lot of time in sorting, categorizing, and managing your audio — everything you need is in one clean, easy - to - use window. Audio Editor The Audio Editor in FreesoundHub is a handy tool for previewing and organizing the audio files you've downloaded within Unity. It allows you to browse all available audio clips and play specific parts of each using interactive trim sliders without ever modifying the original file.
