Skip boring beginner crochet projects and start making items that you and your friends & family will love. Learn and practice crochet through amigurumi - a simple Japanese crochet style. In this class, I will teach you the basics of amigurumi, which is a crochet style most often used for making cute toys. Amigurumi is a great technique for beginners because you only need to know three stitches - single crochet, increase and decrease - to start making toys. This class is suitable for beginners who are familiar with the single crochet stitch (US terminology) and can make a simple single crochet square. What you’ll learn ● A refresher on the single crochet stitch; ● Amigurumi stitches - magic loop, invisible decrease, increase; ● Counting rows and stitches; ● How to crochet a flat circle; ● How to crochet a ball; ● How to adjust the ball to create other amigurumi shapes; ● Using safety eyes & how to neatly stitch pieces together; ● How to turn a drawing into a finished amigurumi creature. What you’ll need ● At least two bright colours of light worsted weight acrylic yarn, ● A small amount of white and black yarn, ● D/3 (3mm) crochet hook, ● Stuffing, ● Safety eyes (I suggest getting eyes with a diameter of 8-9mm), ● Yarn needle, ● Scissors and pins. Class Planning Template 3 Project Description Practice or demonstrate a learned skill. ● Detail the steps. ● Add supporting resources. Review Craft Your Class Project to learn more about how to craft a relevant and engaging project. Once you are familiar with some simple amigurumi techniques, you are ready to jump into creating your own little amigurumi creature! Your project for this class is to draw and crochet a cute or funny animal or a made-up creature. 1. Draw a creature using round shapes. It can be an animal, such as a bear or a cat, or you could have fun and come up with a cute monster. 2. Analyze your drawing and divide it into shapes. 3. Crochet these shapes while comparing them to your drawing. Stitch up your creature as you go along. If, at first, you don’t succeed, try making the shapes again until you are happy with how they look. 4. Finish stitching up your creature and photograph it. Upload the photo to the project gallery for others to see. Tip: Once you get closer to publishing your class we encourage you to revisit your Class Title, Class Description, and Project Description and ensure they are optimized for discoverability and SEO.
