August 2019 Use of Mobile Phones , Wearable Technology and Cameras Purpose We take steps to ensure that there are effective procedures in place to protect children, young people and adults from the unacceptable use of mobile phones and cameras in the setting. Polic y Statement Personal Mobile Phones , Wearab le technology and cameras Personal mobile phones belonging to members of staff are not used on the premises during working hours At the beginning of each individual’s shift, personal mobile phones are to be store d in the black phone box, or in the unit. Staff should state by ticking on the appropriate form where they have placed their mobile phone. In the event of an emergency, personal mobile phones may be used in an appropriate area, with permission from the man ager. Members of staff ensure that the telephone number of the settin g is known to immediate family and other people/ schools who need to contact them in an emergency. If members of staff take their own mobile phones on outings, for use in the case of an e mergency, they must not make or receive personal calls as this will distract them. Members of staff will not us e their personal mobile phones for taking photographs of children in the setting or on outings. Smart watched must be in dar k or the atre mode, an d may only be used for telling the time when on duty with children Visitors and parents using mobile phones Parents and visitors are requested not to use their mobile phones whilst on the premises. This p olicy can be found in visi tors signing in book. Th ey are asked to leave their phones in their bags or place in the visitors phone box August 2019 Staff will approach and explain the settings policy to visitors that use their mobile phones in the setting V isitors will be advised of a quiet space where they can use the ir mobile phones, where there are no children present, the manager is to be advised also. Cameras and videos Members of staff must not bring their own cameras or video recorders into the setting. Photographs and recording of children are only taken for v alid reasons i.e. to record their learning and development, or for displays within the setting. Photographs or recordings of children are only taken on equipment belonging to the setting. Camera and video use is monitored by the manager and fellow colleagu es. When parents request permission to photograph or record their o wn children at special events, an verbal explanation will be given to parents warning them not to take photos or films of other children in the event. Photographs and recordings of children are only taken of children if there is written permission to do so (f ound on the individual child’s registration f orm)
