ROSE MARIE BELLEMUR EXPLORING ARTWORKS Rose-Marie Bellemur Statement The ambition to capture space, time, and emotion drives a practice that resists containment within the limits of the canvas. At the core of this body of work lies an ongoing investigation into light—its behavior, its symbolism, and its enduring presence across global cosmologies. Reflection, refraction, shadow, and radiance are not simply visual elements, but structural forces that shape each composition. Rather than producing fixed representations, these works operate in the realm of suggestion. They are constructed through a highly controlled yet intuitive process, where color becomes a primary vehicle for emotional intensity. The result is a visual language that invites stillness while sustaining tension—an experience that unfolds gradually and rewards sustained looking. Each piece is resolved through a distinct methodology. Some works are executed with precision, where pigments and inks articulate complex compositional structures. Others embrace density and material presence, incorporating layered surfaces and collage. This oscillation between control and expansion defines the practice. The compositions resist closure. They function as open systems—images in flux—where fragments imply continuity and every edge suggests extension beyond the visible field. Within these spatial ambiguities, a dialogue emerges between the known and the unknowable, the tangible and the immaterial. The work reflects a trajectory that moves fluidly between figuration and abstraction, informed by earlier explorations in geometric painting, landscape, and conceptual minimalism. This synthesis positions the practice within a contemporary discourse where abstraction is not an endpoint, but a tool to expand perception. Material exploration remains central. While oil painting anchors the practice, it is continuously expanded through the integration of ink, watercolor, raw pigment, and mixed media. Works on paper and textile-based pieces further extend this investigation, introducing new dimensions of fragility, texture, and presence. The work has been presented in international art fairs, museum exhibitions in Tokyo, and galleries across Europe, the United States, and Latin America. It is held in private collections globally, reflecting sustained interest from an international collector base Master Artist Statement I am Rose Marie Bellemur, a multidisciplinary painter with over three decades of professional practice. My work is not simply an extension of life—it is its primary articulation. I was raised in an environment where artistic expression was fundamental. From an early age, I trained in drawing, painting, ceramics, and photography, alongside several years of classical dance. This foundation instilled a lasting discipline and a sensitivity to composition, rhythm, and balance that continue to shape my practice today. I work full-time from my studio, where I develop a refined visual language rooted in reduction and clarity. My process is deeply connected to lived experience, particularly my immersion in nature. I spend much of the year surrounded by forest, where silence, atmosphere, and observation become essential. The shifting light through leaves, the presence of trees, and the transparency of mist are not simply observed—they are absorbed and translated into my work. The sea is equally present in my practice. It represents continuity, openness, and freedom. Between these two landscapes—the density of the forest and the vastness of the ocean—I construct a body of work grounded in both introspection and expansion. Through oil painting, my primary medium, as well as watercolor and ink, I create compositions that unfold with quiet intensity. My work resists immediate reading. I am interested in creating pieces that reveal themselves over time, inviting a slower, more attentive engagement. Each painting functions as a contemplative field, capturing atmospheres that are not explicitly defined yet deeply felt. The balance between fluidity and formal control is essential, allowing the work to carry emotional clarity while maintaining structural precision. I do not seek to describe, but to propose a way of seeing—one that moves beyond representation into perception and understanding. Alongside larger works, I develop series in small and mid formats, including artist books and textile-based pieces. These formats allow me to explore intimacy, materiality, and connection, where meaning often resides in the most subtle and essential details. A r t w o r k s Jump II.
