Statesville was officially established in 1789. It's believed the original name of the town was 'The States Vil'. Head to the largest man-made lake in North Carolina via the popular access point in Troutman. This park boasts kid-friendly trails, like Dragonfly Trail, to embark on. If looking for a delicious lakeside restaurant, head about 30 minutes to Toucan's for a family-friendly spot. The music, the views, and the food make this a popular location. Full of interactive exhibits for both children & adults, the museum has been an integral part of Statesville's community since 1956. Admission is $5. Statesville is home to over 15 Hot Air Balloon Pilots and the Carolina BalloonFest, which was first held in 1974 as the National Balloon Rally. It's the second-oldest hot air balloon festival in the world. Known as the first vineyard in Iredell County, Davesté Vineyards is an ideal spot to spend an afternoon with family and friends. Feel free to bring your own picnic. Located 25-minutes from Statesville, this family-friendly mine boasts 60+ types of naturally occurring gems. Admission is $25 for 12+; $10 for 4-11. Located in Historic Downtown, this burger spot serves a variety of burgers, brats, and drinks. All of their craft beer are sourced from North Carolina.
