They strive to serve all their clients with dignity and respect. One building, five programs: Currently, PCS focuses on programs that provide food, garden education, clothing, select daily living items, fire wood, and seasonal gift baskets to those local individuals and families who need these services the most. All programs are housed under one roof to minimize overhead. PCS is a volunteer - based organization and is overseen by a Board of Directors made up of local resi- dents. This is truly a “ neighbor helping neighbor ” group of people who care for and want to make life better for their friends and neighbors. One of the biggest needs of Philomath Community Services is oftentimes toilet paper and paper towels to distribute to needy families. We will have a box in the foyer all month to collect both items for delivery to the facility at the end of the month. Our mission focus for the month of October will be Philomath Community Services. Then it seems like, all of a sudden, it is over and done with. So now I guess it was a good thing to have it done. It seems like this past Sunday represented quite a transition in the church. There are so many changes that are starting this week and next, that it is really hard to keep up with. I have figured out that I can put a link to the church calendar here: And elsewhere in this newsletter. Just opening that calendar will give you an idea about how much stuff is going on. I am extra excited about the lay - led programs that are starting or have started. The newest programs we have are the community meal, Sunday School, and a new Praise & Share event that will happen every 2nd and 4th Wednesday. Also, our confirmation class will begin this Sunday at 1pm. We will have discussions and videos and we will work our way from the earliest beginnings of creation all the way up to the current theology and positions of the United Methodist Church. It is an 18 - wk endeavor, although we will be taking some breaks and possibly combining some of the sessions. It was originally designed for the younger folks, but the last few times I have done it, we have had many “ older ” folks join in. You do not have to commit to all the sessions. Each class stands on its own, but they do build on each other somewhat. Everyone is welcome to come check it out this Sunday! P.S. Don ’ t forget worship is now at 10:30am! The students take part in a 12 - month residential program, and there are separate campuses for men and women. We invite you to send this week ’ s student a card of encouragement. Be sure and tell them you are a member of the College United Methodist Church, and that our church continues to pray for their progress and success! Adrian B. c/o Adult and Teen Challenge Program 31700 Fayetteville Dr. Shedd, OR 97377 We hope that you will be willing to pick one of the four students we sponsor and send them a card or letter of encouragement. If you do not want to stick to one student, you are welcome to write or send a card to our student of the week. You can make a financial contribution to our sponsorship fund by mail, in person, or online. But just as important is regular communication from the sponsors. Many of our students no longer have the family structural support, and your participation might be just the lifeline they are waiting for. You can just send a card with your name or a very short note. It is not necessary to write them a long letter. Just let them know you thought of them and are praying for them.
