Sabbath Sermons Sabbath Sermons is a Western Australian historic Adventist ministry standing upon the original platform of Seventh - day Adventist truth We believe that the truths which called the Advent movement into existence remain as important today as when they were first proclaimed. Our purpose is not to present a modernised form of Adventism, but to uphold the Bible, the Spirit of Prophecy, and the original pillars of the Advent message. Although Sabbath Sermons is not affiliated with the present General Conference organisation or with the Seventh - day Adventist Reform Movement, we do not regard faithfulness to the original Adventist platform as indep endence from Adventism. Those who remain upon the foundation of truth have not separated from the faith; separation takes place when truth is abandoned. Ellen G. White wrote: “Those who rally now to support and build up the truth of God are ranging themsel ves on one side, standing united in heart, mind, and voice in defense of the truth.” Selected Messages, Book 3, p. 23.1 Our desire is also expressed in the words: “...with pen and voice we are to proclaim the truth to the world, not in a tame, spiritless way , but in demonstration of the Spirit and power of God.” Evangelism, p. 121.2 Where We Worship Sabbath Sermons is a local congregation worshipping each Sabbath in Swan View, Western Australia. The Message We Proclaim The teaching presented through Sabbath Sermons centres upon the great themes of Scripture and the distinctive truths of the Advent message. These include the Three Angels’ Messages, the Sanctuary and Investigative Judgment, the Atonement, the Nature of Christ, Daniel and Revelation, the Loud Cry and Latter Rain, the sealing work, the church in the wilderness, and preparation for the Second Coming of Jesus Chris t These subjects are not presented merely as theological information. They concern the living experience and preparation of God’s people in the closing scenes of earth’s history. Christ, the Atonement and the Sanctuary At the centre of the message is Jesus Christ. His sacrifice upon Calvary is the foundation of our salvation, yet Scripture reveals that His work for humanity did not end at the cross. After His resurrection and ascension, Christ entered the heavenly sanctu ary as our great High Priest, continuing His ministry of reconciliation. The sanctuary message therefore reveals the whole work of salvation: Christ’s sacrifice, His priestly ministry, the judgment, the cleansing from sin and the final preparation of a peo ple who will stand before God. The Atonement is not regarded merely as an event belonging to the past, but as a living work through which Christ seeks to bring humanity back into complete harmony with God. The Nature of Christ Closely connected with the At onement is the incarnation of Jesus Christ. The Son of God truly entered humanity. He came close to fallen man, encountered temptation, yet remained without sin. His victory was not given merely for us to admire from a distance. Through faith in Christ and the working of the Holy Spirit, the believer is called to overcome sin and have the character of Christ reproduced within. The gospel is therefore not simply forgiveness for what we have been. It is the power of God to transform what we are The Spirit of Prophecy The writings of Ellen G. White form an important part of the material presented through Sabbath Sermons. We accept the biblical gift of prophecy and value the Spirit of Prophecy as a heaven - sent light that continually directs the believer back to Scripture and assists in understanding the special message entrusted to God’s people in these last days. Our sermons and studies therefore frequently bring together the testimony of Scripture and the Spirit of Prophecy. The Church in the Wilderness Sabbat h Sermons frequently addresses the question of what constitutes the true church of God. Jesus declared: “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20 The Spirit of Prophecy likewise states: “God h as a church... it is the people who love God and keep His commandments.” The Upward Look, p. 315.5 The church of God is therefore more than an earthly organisation or denominational structure. It consists of those who belong to Christ, love God, keep His com mandments and walk faithfully in the light He has given. Remaining faithful to the original truth does not make God’s people independent of His church. The question is whether we are standing upon the foundation God established. The Original Adventist Plat form Historic Adventism was built upon a body of truth established through earnest Bible study and the leading of God during the formative years of the Advent movement. Sabbath Sermons seeks to remain upon that original foundation. This does not mean regarding the pioneers as infallible. Every doctrine must stand upon the Word of God. But when truth has been clearly established through Scripture, believers are not called to abandon the foundation in favour of changing theological fas hions. We seek the old paths , not merely because they are old, but because they contain truths that remain essential to the final generation. Present Truth Throughout Bible history God has given truth especially relevant to the generation living at that time. The Advent message likewise contains truths particularly connected with the closing work of the gospel. The sanctuary, the judgment, the Sabbath, the Th ree Angels’ Messages, the sealing work and preparation for Christ’s return form part of this present truth. Sabbath Sermons exists to preserve and proclaim that message.
