In today’s world of technology and Internet, information available is plenty but right and consolidated information sources are scanty and I found this compilation very well presented. The exposure to technology, Media and Social Networking on a larger scale has made our youth aware to a great extent, but they are little aware of the authenticity of information which they are exposed to on a regular basis.Today’s Youth believes the Internet to be the most accurate and authentic source of information but, we know all too well, the Internet can often be a cesspool of rumour and chicanery. Mohit’s endeavour to provide correct and consolidated information to our young brigade by giving them whole basket of available options after school is par excellence. I would like to request all the parents, teachers and other stake holders, who are part of decision making for the child’s career, to go through this handbook and allow the child to take informed decision based on his/her Aptitude, Personality and Interest. I wish Mohit all the best and encourage him to continue his research and publications which will serve the student community and the public at large for years to come. Copyright © 2019 Mohit Mangal. Page-6 FAQs about Career Counseling Copyright © 2019 Mohit Mangal. All Rights Reserved. Page-7 What is Career Counseling? Career Counseling is a process in which an expert helps you with your career exploration, career change, personal career development and other career related issues. This is a process in which the practitioner gives advice on “career” with counseling techniques that simplifies complex decisions and di ffi cult situations for the client. The expert helps you know yourself better using a set of questions (verbal or written). Based on the response, the expert guides you in getting answers to some complex questions which cannot be answered by self. What is iQue Brain Mapping? Brain Mapping is “in person Interaction” process with the Counselor, in which the Aptitude of the child is assessed, looking at the comfort and natural bent towards different subjects which the child is exposed to in the previous years of his/her academic or non academic exposure. Following this, in the same “in person interaction”, interest of the child is assessed by gauging his top of the mind recall and leisure time spent or desired and lastly, counselor talks to the parent to understand the influence on the child of his/her surroundings along with family/Peer Group/Social impact. Why is iQue Brain Mapping MOST Effective tool for Career Counseling? The Brain Mapping method of Career Counseling is MOST effective tool due to three reasons: 1. Since the process is personal interaction based, each response of the child can be assessed carefully and which response has to be discounted or enhanced, can be taken in consideration by the counselor. (which is impossible in MCQ Written Test) 2. An open option of deep probing is available, if in any response the counselor feels some disconnect. (This is impossible in MCQ Written Test in 1st round. Only in the second round it can be done, if and only if the counselor is able to fi gure out the discrepancy, which is extremely di ffi cult.) 3. Counselor can remove any ambiguity in the response, if found, at any point of time during the interaction. (This is impossible in MCQ Written Test in 1st round. Only in the second round it can be eliminated if and only if the counsellor is able to fi gure out the discrepancy which is extremely di ffi cult.) What is Multiple Choice Aptitude Test and why its results are not effective? A test containing Psychometric questions of multiple choice type, ranging between 100 to 600 in number, to be completed in a given time frame is Multiple Choice Psychometric Test. This test is administered to the child and then the report based on the child's response in form of A/B/C/D options is generated. This tool used for career counseling has loads of drawback. In my research, I found these tests were built to cater to masses because individual counseling and probing took a lot of time and the scalability was restricted. Also, most of these tests were developed in western countries and were not su ffi ciently tested and balanced as per Indian needs. Further in my research, I found that most of the children either do not understand most questions in these tests or after answering a few questions, they do not take the test seriously and just start marking the choices at random. This drastically affects the reliability of the report and thus renders the process ine ffi cient for Career Counseling. What is DMIT (Dermatoglyphics Multiple Intelligence Test)? Why is it ineffective? DMIT, also known as “Dermatoglyphics Multiple Intelligence Test” is JUST an empirical study which is associated with biometrics and brain lobes. This study claims to help in understanding a unique inborn potential and personality. This study was conducted by Howard Gardner and he proposed this model in his book in 1983 “Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences”. This was a research thesis project which showed some correlation between fi nger prints and Multiple Intelligences. It was picked up by some Marketers who published and marketed it well in third world countries like India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Honk Kong etc. There is NO research or clinical evidence to prove the authenticity of the same. It is like shooting without a target which one will hit every time. Introduction This book has been prepared in accordance with “The Gazette of India, July 5, 2014” released in March 2014 (Yes March 2014). This Gazette released by “University Grants Commission” under the head of “Specification of Degrees” says that in exerc ise of the powers conferred by UGC Act 1956 and in suppression of all earlier Gazette Notifications pertaining to specification of Degrees, the University Grants Commission (UGC) with the approval of the Central Government hereby specifies the nomenclature of the degree for the purpose of the said Section. Further to this, I have taken in consideration the gazette amendment of 21st July 2015 and of 31st May 2016 for the current compilation. Although UGC has broadly classified these Specifications in 15 categories for Bachelor Degrees after 12th, but for the ease of the reader, I have skipped few and further sub categorized few classifications and made a total of 20 Categories. A few Degree Nomenclatures given in this Booklet have been changed or restructured by UGC. But due to popularity of the older nomenclature, I have still incorporated them in the compilation. For ex: A popular degree course BJMC (Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication) or BMC (Bachelor of Mass Communication) has been restructured by UGC as BA (Journalism & Mass Communication). Still some universities use the name BJMC or BMC. But the fi nal Degree Certificate which the candidate will get after completion of the graduation will be BA (Journalism & Mass Communication). T herefore the USP of this book is that any college/institute offering a Degree Nomenclature which shows no presence in this book is either fake or marketed in a different way to attract students.
