Filled or Outline? Choosing the Right Minecraft Circle Every circle plan comes in two flavours. An outline is just the rim - cheap, fast, and all you need for walls, towers and rings. A filled circle is a solid disc, which is what you want for floors, roofs, plazas and the top of a wizard hat. The material difference is big: a diameter 15 outline takes 40 blocks, while the filled version takes 177. On survival mode that difference decides whether the build happens today or next week. Rule of thumb: if you will stand on it, fill it. If you will stand inside it, outline it. And for domes, outline each layer and leave the middle empty - nobody sees the inside of a roof.
