Can you provide an overview of your career in the energy sector? SPOTLIGHT SERIES: FREDERIC BAUDRY I am a Board-level energy executive with 36 years of experience at BP, who last reported to 2 EVP’s and led Regions and global businesses for BP. I held Director roles across multiple global markets, including Australia, China, Taiwan, South Africa, Germany, and Belgium. I specialise in enabling strategic turnarounds, maintaining safe operations, and delivering sustainable growth. I am a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. With 20 years on executive committees and 15 years as an executive director, I have led both growth initiatives and transformation efforts, particularly in international joint ventures. My leadership style is collaborative and focused on developing talent, building high-performance teams, and embracing cultural diversity. I led the strategic turnaround of several underperforming businesses in fuels, petrochemicals, and retail by combining commercial analysis with decisive leadership. This involved portfolio restructuring, asset divestments, and a clear transformation programme. I also strengthened team capability and instilled a performance-driven culture, resulting in sustainable operational and financial improvements. The outcome was a more focused, agile organisation with a clear path to long-term growth. This experience reinforced my belief in the power of a leadership aligned to common goals, personal accountability, and embedded cultural transformation. What unique value do you bring to companies in the energy sector, particularly in a consultancy role? I offer over 30 years of senior leadership experience across six downstream business models, with full P&L responsibility in global markets. I’ve led major investments, M&A, and transformation initiatives, and bring a strong focus on safety, reliability, and results. As a coach and advisor to senior leaders, I help organisations navigate complexity and deliver lasting impact. My international background enables me to work effectively across diverse cultures and geographies. I bring clarity, structure, and a people-first approach to every engagement. What is your vision for the future of the energy sector, and how do you plan to contribute to its evolution? Asset scale, cost-curve advantage and integration will continue to dominate energy production globally. Energy diversification will over time become essential: energy will need to be produced, distributed, and consumed in a variety of forms, balancing fossil fuels with lower-carbon alternatives. This transition must be economically viable and inclusive, especially in developing markets where energy remains fundamental to growth, welfare, and opportunity. The key challenges will centre on making sound investment decisions, building integrated value chains, and selecting the right portfolio mix for future performance, not historical precedent. At the same time, the industry must ensure its relevance to future generations by investing in human capability and evolving its narrative. I intend to contribute by supporting businesses in defining their strategic direction, identifying and managing investments, and embedding the capabilities and culture required for long-term success. My focus will be on creating strategy clarity on value-growth, enabling performance, and helping organisations navigate transition with purpose and resilience.
