Rafael Noah Morales, 24, 519 Lincoln Ave., Dunkirk, is preliminarily charged with resisting an officer, a Level 6 felony, criminal mischief and reckless driving, both Class B misdemeanors, and operating a vehicle without a license, a Class C misdemeanor. Morales faces the charges after allegedly taking police on a 2- to 3-mile chase through Dunkirk Monday morning. A Dunkirk police officer attempted to stop Morales after he was allegedly spotted driving on Main Street without the headlights on his vehicle on. According to police, he then took the officer on the pursuit, which reached speeds of approximately 80 mph. Officers from Delaware and Blackford counties were called to assist with the chase. Eventually Morales allegedly drove into a cornfield, where officers lost sight of him. Monday morning, however, Morales turned himself into police. He was booked at 4:45 a.m. into Jay County Jail, where he remains under a $4,500 bond. Possession of a syringe A Selma man was arrested Sunday and preliminarily charged with possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony. Michael Masters, 22, 311 Wilimere St., Selma, faces the charge following a traffic stop in Dunkirk. A Dunkirk officer stopped Masters at Main and Jay streets because one of the headlights on his vehicle was out. During the traffic stop, the officer searched Masters and his vehicle and allegedly found a syringe. Masters was arrested and booked at 3:02 a.m. into Jay County Jail under a $3,000 bond. Probation violations Two men were arrested over the weekend for violating their probation. Matthew Shepler, 30, 27 West 60th St., New York, N.Y., was arrested in Jay County Sunday afternoon on a Jay Circuit Court warrant for a probation violation. He was arrested and booked at 1:16 p.m. into Jay County Jail, where he remains under a $30,000 bond. Devin Davis, 25, 4008 S. Adams St., Marion, was arrested in Jay County Saturday morning on a Jay Superior Court warrant for a probation violation. He was booked at 11:16 a.m. into Jay County Jail, where he remains under a $15,000 bond. Matthew S. Shepler, 25, 3600 Western Ave., Apt. 240, was arrested by Portland police for burglary, a class B felony, and residential entry, a class D felony. Shepler reportedly told Portland police that he had been staying at the home of Doug and Stacy Blankenbaker, 504 E. Race St., for two or three days.
