Me and my three fellow friends decided to stay in this accommodation from September to December 2025. At the beginning we were welcomed and the contact with the host, Elodie, was indeed very good. Unfortunately, our experience from day to day was getting progressively worse to the point, where we can politely describe our experience as being extremely below our expectations, which were guided only by what was stated in the provided description on AirBnB. We were expecting a cosy stay in a renovated house. “The house was renovated and decorated in 2023” – during our stay we had three serious emergencies. 1. At the very beginning of our arrival the roof started leaking. At that time Lille has faced heavy rains and weather conditions. The contact with the host at that time was swift and professional, which resulted in the quick reaction. The issue was solved almost immediately. 2. On 19 th November we faced the power outage. We contacted the host immediately and she contacted the electrician. In span of 24 hours we had three electricians, and two of them were from the company that provides electricity. The host kept insisting that it was not her fault and guess what, it was indeed her fault. The device, which receives power from the main grid, burnt. The third electrician stated that the installation has not been maintained for decades. DECADES. Moreover, the device is installed on a wooden piece, which also is partially burnt and smoked. The power was restored approximately after 24 hours. 3. Because every amenity in the house is dependent on the electricity, we were left without the ability to cook, without the hot water, and without heating. Since the power outage, the temperature in the house remained around 15 degrees of Celsius, even reaching 13 in some bedrooms. We reported the issue to the host and this time we were left with unclear, logically flawed responses, excuses and fake assurances that everything is up to the legal standards. From our observations, the house is not properly insulated. There are several spots where the heat escapes, notably: the entrance, the toilet, and all the windows in all of the bedrooms (which creates the unbearable conditions for living during winter). The host kept on insisting that there is no problem with the insulation and that the heating system is indeed capable of providing the sustainable conditions, but the reality has proven otherwise. The issue with heating became serious only after the power outage, but earlier we faced the conditions which were simply not comfortable. The host is very sharp in sticking to the regulation of the minimum of 18 degrees. Honestly, that could describe our entire stay. The host was committed to compel to the lowest acceptable standards, and only to them. Being concerned in safety after the house almost set itself on fire due to the electrical issue, we asked the host about the fire extinguisher (https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/1383). The host stated that indeed “a fire extinguisher is available in the accommodation”, and that she would “gladly” tell us its exact location if we “wish[ed] to use it”. So in case of fire, call your landlord. As for positives, kitchen is well equipped, the apartment is spacious, and besides all of these unfortunate and disappointing aspects, we managed to have a rather acceptable conditions when it comes to cooking, laundering, working or having a good time. Overall, we think that this location is good for the warmer parts of the year. Still, safety matters push us to strongly discourage anyone from staying there. Due to our concerns, unbearable temperature, and the host’s reluctance to respond to the questions regarding safety, we contacted the AirBnB support, decided to shorten our stay, and relocated to a safer spot, where human life does not appear to be treated as collateral damage.
