Everything below comes from VMExam’s GCP-ADP syllabus page, cross-checked against Google’s own published exam guide. Certification Google Cloud Platform - Associate Data Practitioner (GCP-ADP) Exam code GCP-ADP Questions 50-60 multiple choice and multiple select Duration 120 minutes Passing score Pass / fail; Google publishes no threshold Exam fee USD 125, plus tax where applicable Languages English and Japanese Delivery Online-proctored, or onsite at a test centre Registration Google CertMetrics Recommended experience 6+ months working with data on Google Cloud Recommended training Google Cloud Skills Boost data-practitioner learning path Two points worth settling before you book. First, the result is pass or fail and Google publishes no passing score - VMExam records an approximate 70 per cent threshold, which is a useful planning assumption but not a number Google stands behind, so do not revise to it. Second, the exam is available both online-proctored and at a test centre, and Google’s certification page is where the current fee, languages and renewal terms live. The fee is USD 125 before tax. SECTION 02 Who This Exam Is Built For Google recommends six or more months of hands-on experience working with data on Google Cloud before you sit this. That puts it squarely at people already doing the work rather than people reading about it: Data Analysts Junior Data Engineers BI and Reporting Teams There is no prerequisite certification. The recommended preparation is Google’s own data-practitioner learning path on Cloud Skills Boost, linked at the end of this guide. One thing to notice about the audience: the blueprint expects an analyst to be comfortable with IAM, encryption keys and lifecycle www.vmexam.com Google GCP-ADP Google Cloud Associate Data Practitioner (GCP-ADP) 2 policies, which are usually treated as platform-team concerns. If that is unfamiliar ground, it is where your study time will go. SECTION 03 The Four Sections and Their Weightings Unlike many vendors, Google publishes weightings for this exam, and its own exam guide PDF carries the same four sections and the same percentages as the syllabus page. They are plotted below exactly as published. Data Preparation and Ingestion 30% Data Analysis and Presentation 27% Data Pipeline Orchestration 18% Data Management 25% Section weightings as published by Google in the Associate Data Practitioner exam guide. They total 100 per cent. Read the weightings against the objective counts and something useful falls out. Data Management carries 25 per cent of the marks across 13 objectives - the most objectives of any section - while Data Pipeline Orchestration is 18 per cent across 9. The governance section is therefore both the broadest and the easiest to under-prepare, because it is the part that looks least like data work. Ingestion leads on weighting at 30 per cent. 01. Data Preparation and Ingestion (30%) • Differentiate between different data manipulation methodologies (e.g., ETL, ELT, ETLT). • Choose the appropriate data transfer tool (e.g., Storage Transfer Service, Transfer Appliance). • Assess data quality. • Conduct data cleaning (e.g., Cloud Data Fusion, BigQuery, SQL, Dataflow). • Distinguish the format of the data (e.g., CSV, JSON, Apache Parquet, Apache Avro, structured database tables). • Choose the appropriate extraction tool (e.g., Dataflow, BigQuery Data Transfer Service, Database Migration Service, Cloud Data Fusion). • Select the appropriate storage solution (e.g., Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Firestore, Bigtable, Spanner). • Choose the appropriate data storage location type (e.g., regional, dual-regional, multi-regional, zonal). • Classify use cases into having structured, unstructured, or semi-structured data requirements. • Load data into Google Cloud storage systems using the appropriate tool (e.g., gcloud and BQ CLI, Storage Transfer Service, BigQuery Data Transfer Service, client libraries). 02. Data Analysis and Presentation (27%) • Define and execute SQL queries in BigQuery to generate reports and extract key insights. www.vmexam.com Google GCP-ADP Google Cloud Associate Data Practitioner (GCP-ADP) 3 • Use Jupyter notebooks to analyze and visualize data (e.g., Colab Enterprise). • Analyze data to answer business questions. • Create, modify, and share dashboards to answer business questions. • Compare Looker and Looker Studio for different analytics use cases. • Manipulate simple LookML parameters to modify a data model. • Identify ML use cases for developing models by using BigQuery ML and AutoML. • Use pretrained Google large language models (LLMs) using remote connection in BigQuery. • Plan a standard ML project (e.g., data collection, model training, model evaluation, prediction). • Execute SQL to create, train, and evaluate models using BigQuery ML. • Perform inference using BigQuery ML models. • Organize models in Model Registry. 03. Data Pipeline Orchestration (18%) • Select a data transformation tool (e.g., Dataproc, Dataflow, Cloud Data Fusion, Cloud Composer, Dataform) based on business requirements. • Evaluate use cases for ELT and ETL. • Choose products required to implement basic transformation pipelines. • Create and manage scheduled queries (e.g., BigQuery, Cloud Scheduler, Cloud Composer). • Monitor Dataflow pipeline progress using the Dataflow job UI. • Review and analyze logs in Cloud Logging and Cloud Monitoring. • Select a data orchestration solution (e.g., Cloud Composer, scheduled queries, Dataproc Workflow Templates, Workflows) based on business requirements. • Identify use cases for event-driven data ingestion from Pub/Sub to BigQuery. • Use Eventarc triggers in event-driven pipelines (Dataform, Dataflow, Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, Cloud Composer). 04. Data Management (25%) • Establish the principles of least privileged access by using Identity and Access Management (IAM). • Differentiate between basic roles, predefined roles, and permissions for data services (e.g., BigQuery, Cloud Storage). • Compare methods of access control for Cloud Storage (e.g., public or private access, uniform access). • Determine when to share data using Analytics Hub. • Determine the appropriate Cloud Storage classes based on the frequency of data access and retention requirements. • Configure rules to delete objects after a specified period to automatically remove unnecessary data and reduce storage expenses (e.g., BigQuery, Cloud Storage). • Evaluate Google Cloud services for archiving data given business requirements. www.vmexam.com Google GCP-ADP Google Cloud Associate Data Practitioner (GCP-ADP) 4 • Compare backup and recovery solutions offered as Google-managed services. • Determine when to use replication. • Distinguish between primary and secondary data storage location type (e.g., regions, dual-regions, multi-regions, zones) for data redundancy. • Identify use cases for customer-managed encryption keys (CMEK), customer-supplied encryption keys (CSEK), and Google-managed encryption keys (GMEK). • Understand the role of Cloud Key Management Service (Cloud KMS) to manage encryption keys. • Identify the difference between encryption in transit and encryption at rest. SECTION 04 What the Credential Is Worth The role this certification maps to most directly is the data analyst, and the baseline is well reported: PayScale puts the average base salary for a data analyst in the United States at $70,643 for 2026, on 11,864 salary profiles last updated 13 July 2026, with the tenth to ninetieth percentile running from $51,000 to $95,000. Why this exam, specifically • It is the only associate-level Google Cloud certification aimed at data work rather than general infrastructure. • BigQuery, Looker, Dataflow and Cloud Composer in one blueprint matches what a working analytics stack actually looks like. • The machine-learning objectives are SQL-based through BigQuery ML, so they are reachable without a modelling background. • It is a natural step toward the Professional Data Engineer exam, which assumes most of this as background. That band is the floor rather than the ceiling for someone who holds this certification. The objectives that lift you out of it are the pipeline and governance ones: an analyst who can also build a scheduled pipeline, reason about storage classes and explain the difference between CMEK and CSEK is doing work that is priced as data engineering, not reporting. The exam is unusual in making that crossover explicit at associate level. SECTION 05 Getting Certified, Step by Step www.vmexam.com Google GCP-ADP Google Cloud Associate Data Practitioner (GCP-ADP) 5 1 Get a project and a dataset of your own Almost every objective is something you do in the console or in SQL. Load a public dataset into BigQuery, query it, and keep that project open for the rest of your preparation. 2 Work the ingestion section until the tool choices are automatic Section 1 is 30 per cent and most of it is "choose the appropriate tool". Build a decision rule for each pair: Storage Transfer Service against Transfer Appliance, Dataflow against Data Fusion, Cloud SQL against Bigtable against Spanner, regional against multi-regional. 3 Do the BigQuery ML path end to end, in SQL Create, train, evaluate, predict, and register a model - all of it through SQL statements. Six objectives in Section 2 are machine learning, and none of them require you to write Python. 4 Treat governance as a first-class topic, not revision Thirteen objectives cover IAM, Analytics Hub, lifecycle rules, storage classes, replication, backup and the three kinds of encryption key. This is the section most analysts skim, and it is a quarter of the paper. 5 Rehearse against the clock, then book Fifty to sixty questions in 120 minutes gives you about two minutes each. Because the result is pass/fail with no published threshold, the only sensible target is comfortable margin rather than a percentage. For the rehearsal, VMExam’s GCP-ADP practice exam mirrors the real format, including the multiple-select items, so you can find the gaps before the exam does. SECTION 06 Google GCP-ADP Sample Questions These ten questions come from VMExam’s GCP-ADP sample questions page, presented here in shuffled order. All ten are single-answer, which is worth noting - the real paper also uses multiple-select items, so do not read the format of this set as the format of the exam. What it does represent well is the style: short scenarios that turn on one specific behaviour of one service. The answer key is at the end of the section. Q1. Which stage of a standard machine learning project immediately follows model training? a) Data collection b) Feature selection c) Prediction on new data d) Model evaluation Q2.
