Program: Depression amongst Asian youth in North America Logic Model Situation: According to a survey conducted by the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) in 2017, approximately 7.1% of adults i n the United States had experienced at least one major depressive episode in the space of a year. Among the adults who responded to the survey, 13.1% were 18 – 25 - year - olds, meaning that this age group was most at risk of experiencing depression Inputs (What we invest) Outputs Outcomes -- Impact Activities (What do we need to do for those individuals/groups to accomplish the short - term outcomes?) Participation (Who must be reached for the short - term outcomes to be achieved?) Time Investment. - Office working - related gadgets for example printers and paper supplies. - Founders and stakeholders that are interested in this program (depending on availability) Activities: - Provide mental health assessment including target cultural understanding - Self - assessment/needs - assessment to identify the specific mental health needs and concerns of Asian adolescents living in Canada. - Educate parents of Asian adolescents - Promote and address stigma to Asian communities - Establish an online platform for Asian adolescents to access mental health resources including informational materials and self - efficacy tools. - Collaborate with community organizations to promote mental health and wellness events and initiatives. Participants: - Asian adolescents living in Cana da between the ages of 15 - 24 - Family members and caregivers - Community leaders and organizations serving Asian communities in Canada. - Mental health professionals trained to work with Asian adolescents. - Establishment of a complete monitoring mechanism for targeted audiences. - Newly formed community - level support system regarding depression and other mental illnesses. - Increasing in personnel that are capable of working with their communities, promoting or improving a beneficial environment for mental illn ess recovery. - A general raise of awareness on depression and other mental illnesses, among all young adults ranging between 15 - 24. - creating a sense of community and safety in order for Asian youth to want to take that step in receiving the help they need - F ollowing and monitoring the affected population in this campaign for their mental health condition, to see what are some changes. - Improve detection of depression symptoms and reduce the prevalence of depressive symptoms among Asian adolescents. - Increase f amily and community support - Increase access to culturally - sensitive and language - appropriate mental health services and resources (Inability to speak a certain language prevents youth from seeking help). - Improve mental health outcomes and reduce health d isparities among Asian adolescents in Canada. - Increase representation and participation of Asian communities in mental health advocacy and policy - making - Increase awareness and funding for mental health programs and initiatives targeting Asian communities in Canada. - Reduce stigma associated with seeking mental health services in Asian communities.
