It sits in the middle of the Automation Development track - above Associate Developer, below Professional Developer - and it is the one most Blue Prism job adverts mean when they ask for “Blue Prism certified”. Sixty questions, 75 minutes, delivered by Certiverse. The facts below come from CertFun’s DEV01 exam syllabus, the official Blue Prism University Developer page and the Developer Certification Handbook, revision 4.0 (2026). Certification SS&C | Blue Prism Developer Exam code DEV01 Awarding body Blue Prism Limited (SS&C | Blue Prism), via Blue Prism University Level Intermediate - the core developer credential, above Associate Developer Number of questions 60 Time limit 75 minutes, with 30 minutes more in some non-English-speaking countries Scoring Scaled 200-800; a scaled score of 600 or higher passes Languages English, Japanese, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Portuguese (Brazil) Exam fee USD 150; GBP 120 in the UK bands; EUR 135 in the euro bands; JPY 16,000 in Japan Prerequisites None. The Developer Learning Plan plus three months of hands-on development is strongly recommended Delivery Certiverse - register and schedule through the SS&C | Blue Prism store Objectives Four, weighted 35 / 35 / 20 / 10 Badge Digital badge issued through Credly on passing Validity Three years from 1 July 2026, renewed by a shorter renewal exam One line in that table is worth pausing on, because it is the single most commonly misreported fact about this exam. The pass mark is not 70%. Blue Prism scores DEV01 on a scaled system running from 200 to 800, and you need 600 or higher . The handbook is explicit about what that means: “a 600 result doesn’t directly reflect a percentage of questions answered correctly. Instead, your raw score (the total number of correct responses) is converted to a common scale.” Scaling exists so that a slightly harder form of the exam is not a harder exam to pass. Plenty of study sites - CertFun’s own syllabus page among them - still print 70%, which was the rule under the older scoring model. Treat 600/800 as the number that counts, and treat “about 70% of the questions right” as a rough working target rather than a threshold. www.certfun.com SS&C Blue Prism DEV01 SS&C | Blue Prism Developer (DEV01) 2 Two other details save money and nerves. The fee is not a flat USD 150 everywhere: the handbook lists GBP 120 for the United Kingdom, Gibraltar, Guernsey, the Isle of Man and Jersey; EUR 135 across the euro-area countries from Andorra to Vatican City State; and JPY 16,000 in Japan. Everywhere else it is USD 150, and the price shown at checkout follows the country the exam is proctored in, not the country you live in. And if you sit the English paper in a country where English is not an official language, you may be granted an extra 30 minutes - unless your native language is one of the four the exam is already translated into. SECTION 02 What the July 2026 Renewal Cycle Changed Until 2026 a Blue Prism Developer certification did not expire. That changed on 1 July 2026 . The Blue Prism Certification Renewal Program put the three Automation Development certifications - Associate Developer, Developer and Professional Developer - on a three-year validity period . The other three exams on the current list, ROM 2 Professional, Technical Architect v7 and Chorus Foundation, do not expire, though Blue Prism reserves the right to change that. Which clock you are on depends on when you passed. If you certified on or before 30 June 2026 , your first cycle expires on 30 June 2029 and your renewal window opens on 1 January 2029. If you certify on or after 1 July 2026 - which includes anyone reading this as a study guide - your certification expires three years from your exam pass date, and the six-month renewal window opens six months before that. Either way you renew by passing a renewal exam, not by re-sitting DEV01 in full; Blue Prism describes the renewal exam as shorter and cheaper, and says pricing and format will be published in 2028. What this means in practice Diary the date. Pass in, say, March 2027 and your window is Sept 2029 to March 2030. Miss the window and you lose the short renewal exam - you re-sit the full DEV01. Fail the renewal exam and there is a 15-day wait before you can retake it. Passing resets the expiry three years from the renewal exam date, not the original. The same date brought rebranded Credly badges . Badges for the three Automation Development certifications now display an expiration date, and existing holders receive the new design by email from Credly. Holders of the retired certifications - Solution Designer, ROM Architect, Installation Engineer v5 and v6, and Technical Architect v5 and v6 - do not. If you are looking at an older Blue Prism badge on a CV, that absence is now a dating clue. SECTION 03 The Four Objectives by Weight Blue Prism publishes real percentages for DEV01, so the chart below is the exam’s own weighting rather than a proxy for it. On a 60-question paper the arithmetic is unusually clean: 35% is about 21 questions, 20% about 12, and 10% about 6. Object Development and Process Development together are 70% of the exam - roughly 42 of the 60 questions - and everything else is the remaining eighteen. www.certfun.com SS&C Blue Prism DEV01 SS&C | Blue Prism Developer (DEV01) 3 Object Development 35% Process Development 35% Process Implementation 20% Best Practice 10% Official percentages from the SS&C | Blue Prism Developer Certification Handbook, document revision 4.0 (2026), and repeated on the Blue Prism University Developer page. CertFun’s syllabus page reproduces the same four objectives with the same weights. The split tells you how to revise. Object Development is the smaller list but the denser one - five statements covering everything from spy modes to Application Modeller labelling, so each statement is worth about four questions on its own. Process Development has fourteen statements for the same 35%, so each is worth roughly a question and a half: breadth matters more than depth there. Process Implementation is the part people under-prepare, because it lives in Control Room and Release Manager rather than in Process Studio where you spend your day. Best Practice is only 10%, but it is the easiest 10% on the paper if you have read the design standards. Objective 1: Object Development — 35% • Create standard action types following best practice design standard • Demonstrate how to organize and label Objects • Demonstrate Application Modeller elements and labelling conventions • Apply different spy modes to interact with various applications • Build and use wait stages Objective 2: Process Development — 35% • Demonstrate how to use process templates for consistent process structure • Build work queues to manage work items • Construct work queue actions for process requirements • Utilise credential manager in keeping with best practice standards • Demonstrate the use of environment variables in keeping with best practice standards • Demonstrate when to reuse existing objects, pages and sub-pages • Build basic Choices, Decisions, Calculations, Data Items and Collections by the expression editor • Understand the use of advanced functions to solve complex process requirements • Illustrate knowledge of common process utilities • Handle exception handling types, retry loops, breakpoints and blocks • Demonstrate the use of Loops • Build stop controls in a process • Demonstrate how and when to use Environment Locks • Understand how to import and use pre-built skills www.certfun.com SS&C Blue Prism DEV01 SS&C | Blue Prism Developer (DEV01) 4 Objective 3: Process Implementation — 20% • Run test of actions and processes to reduce errors • Create debugging steps in different scenarios • Run a process in control room and solve process errors • Demonstrate appropriate usage of stage logging • Understand how schedules are configured to run a process in production • Create a release file in Release Manager Objective 4: Best Practice — 10% • Apply best practice principles when creating processes • Identify proper documentations to follow during automation development Every line above is Blue Prism’s own wording from the certification handbook, cross-checked against the CertFun DEV01 syllabus page, which paraphrases the same list. Use it as a checklist rather than a reading list: if you could not sit down at a Blue Prism client and do the thing a line names, without looking it up, it is a study item. “Demonstrate” and “Build” are the two verbs that recur, and they are meant literally. One warning from the official page that is easy to miss and unsettling in the moment: “syntax errors within the questions are deliberate”. If an expression in a question looks wrong, that may be exactly what is being asked about. Do not assume a typo. SECTION 04 What the Credential Is Worth Blue Prism sits at the enterprise end of RPA - banks, insurers, telcos and shared-service centres, the kind of organisation that runs a governed Digital Worker estate rather than a few desktop bots. That shapes the pay and the job security. ZipRecruiter’s Blue Prism RPA Developer page put the US average at $111,845 a year (about $53.77 an hour) as of March 2026, with the middle of the market between $90,000 and $130,000 and the 90th percentile at $151,500. Glassdoor’s figure for the same title is higher at $132,059. Payscale, which measures the Blue Prism skill rather than the job title and on a much smaller sample, reports $74,000 - a reminder that “knows Blue Prism” and “works as a Blue Prism developer” are not the same market. Take the range, not any single number. The more useful thing DEV01 buys is credibility about governed automation. Anyone can demonstrate a bot that works on their own machine. The four objectives are almost entirely about the things that make automation survive contact with an enterprise: reusable objects with proper labelling, work queues instead of loops over spreadsheets, credentials in the Credential Manager instead of in a data item, environment variables instead of hard-coded paths, exception handling that does not swallow failures, and a release file that another team can deploy. That is the difference the certification actually attests to, and it is why it reads as a governance credential as much as a coding one. www.certfun.com SS&C Blue Prism DEV01 SS&C | Blue Prism Developer (DEV01) 5 Why this exam, specifically It is the Blue Prism credential job adverts name most often by name. No prerequisite, so you can take it without holding Associate Developer first. The objectives are enterprise-shaped: queues, credentials, releases, logging. It is now time-bound, which makes a current badge worth more than an old one. Be honest about the boundary too. This is a product certification, not a general RPA or automation-architecture one, and the RPA market has been consolidating for years as buyers fold task automation into broader intelligent-automation and AI programmes. DEV01 holds its value where Blue Prism estates are large and long-lived, which is precisely the regulated sectors that do not rip and replace. If you want the platform-agnostic half of the story, the natural next steps are on the same track - Professional Developer for delivery depth, Technical Architect for the infrastructure side, ROM 2 Professional for the operating model. The CertFun SS&C | Blue Prism vendor page lists all six current exams in one place. SECTION 05 Getting Certified, Step by Step 1 Get a Blue Prism University account and the Learning Edition Both are free; the Learning Edition gives you somewhere to actually build. 2 Work the Developer Learning Plan end to end Twenty-one modules, listed in full below - not a menu to pick from. 3 Put three months of real building behind you Strongly recommended, and it is what the scenario questions assume. 4 Take the Developer Assessment, then the Practice Test The assessment finds gaps; the practice test rehearses the format. 5 Register on Certiverse and sit the exam 60 questions, 75 minutes, 600 of 800 to pass; then diary your renewal. There is no prerequisite for DEV01 - you do not have to pass Associate Developer first, though the handbook recommends it. What the handbook does insist on is the preparation: complete the Developer Learning Plan, either by self-study at Blue Prism University or through an instructor-led workshop from Blue Prism or an accredited training partner, and get three months of hands-on automation development experience , which it marks “strongly recommended”. Registration and scheduling both happen at Certiverse’s SS&C | Blue Prism exam store, where the rescheduling, cancellation and retake policies are shown during checkout. The Developer Learning Plan in full • Intelligent Automation Introduction • Work Queues • ROM 2 Introduction • Using the Scheduler www.certfun.com SS&C Blue Prism DEV01 SS&C | Blue Prism Developer (DEV01) 6 • Product Portfolio Introduction • Process Delivery Roadmap • Onboarding a Digital Worker • Process Creation • Help & Support Resources Introduction • Business Object Design Best Practices • Blue Prism Foundations • Solution Design Overview • Process Templates • Process Building and Debugging • Credentials and Credentials Manager • Browser Automation • Data Items • Surface Automation Fundamentals • Attribute Matching • Further Developer Learning • Exception Handling Read that list against the objectives in Section 03 and the mapping is almost one-to-one - Work Queues, Credentials and Credentials Manager, Exception Handling, Data Items and Using the Scheduler each answer a named objective statement. The three modules that do not map to an objective, Intelligent Automation Introduction, ROM 2 Introduction and Product Portfolio Introduction, are context rather than exam content; do them, but do not linger. When you want timed practice under exam conditions, CertFun’s DEV01 practice exam mirrors the 60-question, 75-minute format so the clock stops being a surprise. SECTION 06 DEV01 Exam Sample Questions These ten come from CertFun’s DEV01 sample questions page, shown here in shuffled order. All ten are single-answer. They are a fair sample of the real balance: two ask you to recall a specific piece of the product (which internal business object, which template action), two are expression or exception-message reading, and the rest describe a developer facing a decision and ask which choice follows Blue Prism’s best practice. That last group is the one that decides passes. Q1. A Blue Prism Developer is building a process for the inception of new customers. All the data arrives in Blue Prism through a New Customer form, and some of the submitted data contains errors and blank values. Following best practice, where should the Developer build the logic that checks the data is correct? a) An action on the Main Page of the Process calling a Validation Business Object b) A Business Object dedicated to validation of the customer data c) A page within a Business Object containing validation logic for the customer fields d) A separate page within the Process containing the validation logic www.certfun.com SS&C Blue Prism DEV01 SS&C | Blue Prism Developer (DEV01) 7 Q2. When implementing an Environment Lock with a Digital Worker, which of the following is a key consideration to ensure effective and efficient automation? a) Give every process its own uniquely named lock so that two processes never queue for the same token b) Allow several Digital Workers to hold the same Environment Lock at once so that none of them has to wait for the resource c) Release the lock on every route out of the protected section, including the exception path, so a failure cannot leave the resource held d) Rely on the token expiring by itself rather than releasing it, so that no extra stages are needed in the flow Q3. A developer needs to verify whether a text field has been populated before the process continues. Which expression confirms the field is not empty? a) [ItemID] <> null() b) [ItemID] = null() c) [ItemID] <> "" d) [ItemID] = "" Q4. A developer is building an automation that occasionally fails when submitting a customer form due to unpredictable network latency. They want to retry the action only when transient errors occur, but skip retries for permanent failures such as validation errors. How should the developer implement this behavior in the process? a) Use a Retry loop and apply logic to assess error type and retry count b) Ignore the exception and continue to the next item in the queue c) Extend the timeout setting to reduce the chance of retrying d) Add multiple branches to handle each failure using Calculation stages Q5. Why is peer review recommended before releasing a Blue Prism process? a) To speed up deployment b) To reduce license usage c) To improve Control Room scheduling d) To identify defects and enforce standards Q6. Which Blue Prism internal business object contains actions that could ensure only a single Digital Worker accesses a system at any given time? a) Credentials b) Environment Locking c) Data Gateways d) Work Queues www.certfun.com SS&C Blue Prism DEV01 SS&C | Blue Prism Developer (DEV01) 8 Q7. In the standard Blue Prism Business Object template, which action prepares the object so that later actions can interact with the target application? a) Initialize b) Get Next Item c) Release d) Clean Up Q8. What is a best practice when implementing Wait stages? a) Unconditional Wait stage after every stage in the process b) Conditional Wait stage after a Navigation stage c) Unconditional Wait stage after a Write stage d) Conditional Wait stage after every stage in the Process Q9. During a code review, a senior developer notices that the newly built process lacks consistent naming conventions and does not follow the organization’s standard structure. The team also observes that no foundational documents were referenced during the build. Which action should the developer take to align the process with Blue Prism’s development standards? a) Rebuild with a process template and refer to design guidance b) Use impact analysis documents to correct business behavior c) Apply naming conventions by updating the object logic d) Modify test plans to reflect naming used during development Q10. An action called ‘Get Quote Details’ fails with the following exception detail: "Internal: Failed to perform Step 1 in Read Stage ‘Read Stage Details’ on page ‘Get Quote Details’ - Unable to match any windows with the query terms" What does this exception indicate? a) The ‘Get Quote Details’ action no longer exists in the Business Object b) The Object is attempting to attach to a window that does not exist c) An element referenced in the ‘Read Stage Details’ stage could not be found d) The Object is connected to several windows that contain a ‘Get Quote Details’ page Answer key Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Q5 Q6 Q7 Q8 Q9 Q10 d c c a d b a b a c Read the pattern rather than the answers. Where two options both work, the exam wants the one that leaves the estate in a better state afterwards: release the lock on the exception path as well as the happy one, retry only what is worth retrying, keep validation logic in the Process rather than pushing it into a Business Object, and fix a naming problem by going back to the template instead of patching the object. Best Practice is only 10% of the blueprint, but its habits decide the other 90%. www.certfun.com SS&C Blue Prism DEV01 SS&C | Blue Prism Developer (DEV01) 9 SECTION 07 Where to Go Next Before you book, re-read the official Blue Prism Developer page for the current fee in your country and download the handbook fresh - it is on revision 4.0 and the renewal rules arrived with that revision. When your own build differs from what the courseware describes, the Learning & Certifications forum on the SS&C Blue Prism Community is where working developers and Blue Prism staff answer exactly that kind of question, and where renewal-exam details will surface first as 2028 approaches. If you are deciding between exams rather than preparing for one, the Blue Prism University certification list shows the full track. Object naming, stage logging, exception handling and environment locks all answer that question, and so, in the end, does most of DEV01.
