The first toys library in Kurunegala... Imagine children and youngsters being able to borrow a toy free of charge, just like a regular library but lending toys as well as books? Imagine the less fortunate seeing toys for the first time, developing their imagination and personalities through play, imagine a safe space to read and explore endless possibilities Well, is our dream a t SISLO And with your help this can become more than a dream. This will not only help the welfare of its members but will hopefully encourage more such libraries of its kind to support the welfare of more Sri Lankan families and communities. Welfare is at the Hear t of SISLO, Our orphanage is our most prominent welfare project, awarded the Best Orphanage award every year since 2010 after being founded in 2007 , it looks after twenty orphaned, abandoned and destitute girls and is responsible for their food, accommodat ion , education, health - care and future security, as well as providing them with a loving, family - centred home that is as close as possible to a traditional family home. Our Children’s Playground is free for the community and is open all year round, and The Bright Library has over 800 members and this continues to grow, So the Toys Library will complement our projects perfectly all with the Welfare of the locals its priority. Following a donation of a 40ft container from The Flemington Rotary Club (FRC) Melbourne Australia, filled with playground equipment that was used to create a safe children’s park and other priceless donations that continue to support our orphanage. We propose to turn this container Into the Toys library which wil l benefit more than 10,000 children and adults from the local and wider community. The plan to convert the 40ft x 8ft x 9.5ft container into a hybrid library it was our chairman and founder Dr Eshantha’s dream from the moment The FRC decided to h elp with the welfare projects. Peter a member of the Rotarians had a conversation with Dr Eshantha regarding the sending of support “Why a 20ft Container? Why not a 40ft one?” to which Dr Esthantha replied “Absolutely, I will convert the container into a T oys and Books Library! ”. The plans to create a spacious, open, peaceful area above the container for parents and guardians as well as children to relax and unwind , thus will help cement the Toys Library as some where to come to for all members of the family. The estimated costs of The Toy Library are around Rs.5million, this estimation consists of fixing a roof, doors and windows to the metal container, painting, provision of electricity and installation of ventilation, air conditione rs and bookshelves. But the support and joy this project can bring to the community and Sri Lankans will outweigh any costs. By providing Toys and Books we hope to inspire children and youngsters to discover the joy or reading and pl aying, as well as enhancing the skills of those who are already readers. We believe that being able to read is one of life’s essentials skills and is also a vital gateway to education and learning The greatest gift you can give a child is an imagination and the with the Toy Library that is what we plan to do with toys and books to grow young minds. “Free the child’s potential and you will transform him into the world”
