What should we intend when taking notes? حفظه اله Shaykh Uways aṭ-Ṭawīl Shaykh Uways: When taking notes, you think about the ahadīth on seeking knowledge, طَ ريقا يلتمس فيه عِ لْما سَ ه ل الله له طريقا إلى الجنة َ مَ ن ْ سَ لَك Whoever embarks upon a path in seeking knowledge, Allāh will make his path to jannah easy. Taking your notes is from the tools in the journey of seeking hadīth hasan, sound طلب العلم فريضة على كل مسلم ,knowledge hadīth, tahsīm min shaykh al-Albānī rahimahullah, طلب العلم فريضة على كل مسلم seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every muslim. So it is an ibaadah, taking his notes to learn قيد العلم بالكتابة is a statement of the messenger َ وَ سَ ل م ِ ه ُ عَ لَيْه ى الل صَ ل where he said “Inscribe...” or “Make knowledge engraved by writting” so I'm following the sunnah of rasool َ م ه ُ عَ لَيْه ِ وَ سَ ل ى الل ,صَ لI'm following the statement of the messenger َ وَ سَ ل م ِ “Uktub an صَ ل ى الل ه ُ عَ لَيْه Ābī Shâ’, write for Abī Shā’, uktub annī, write from me, he said َ م ه ُ عَ لَيْه ِ وَ سَ ل ى الل صَ ل- we are following the manhajun nubuwwā in seeking knowledge that the companions radiyAllāhu annum were cultivated upon. You have that niyyah, don't look at the person on your left and right. They're not gonna help you, they're not gonna do anything for you, they don't know you, they think they know you. Try and please the One that knows you, and that is Allāh سبحانه وتعالى, so remember and focus and also, just remember Allāh سبحانه وتعالى, and focus on the knowledge you are writing. How you're gonna implement that knowledge, just try and get that in, “I'm gonna try and act upon this knowledge” because if you have the niyyah to act upon it, if you have the sincere niyyah to act upon that knowledge and you leave this masjid- you don't leave this masjid and you die, we hope that it will be written for you. That is how powerful the intention is. So this seeking knowledge deserves purity, deserves ikhlās; deserves sincerity, so let’s do it when we write, in-shaa-Allaah.
