Niah is famous for its stunning bird nest caves, where swiftlets create edible nests that are used in the traditional and cherished bird’s nest soup. The park is rich in biodiversity, with over 200 species of birds and a variety of rare plants and animals, making it a haven for nature lovers. The cave is named for its historical connection to trade, as it was likely used by ancient traders as a shelter along key routes. Evidence of trade goods found inside supports its role as a resting place for travelers. THE GREAT CAVE Reknown for its prehistoric rock art, it showcases murals created by early human inhabitants, depicting animals and abstract designs. These paintings offer insights into the region’s ancient cultures and beliefs.
