Stakeholder Content, Governance Communications Artem Gordon | Content Lead Q1, 2022 Review, and Roadmap Introduction Welcome to my first quarterly update covering GovComms Content and Stakeholder News & Reports. Click here to view my Roles and Responsibilities. GovComms Content is made up of recaps and summaries covering governance and forum activity, recurring updates, public calls, and all their media posts. Check out our Google Drive documentation that includes all Stakeholder News and Reports. We spare no effort in trying to get all publications out on a consistent cadence given 1-2 days of variance. Each project is built on a workflow between myself and several contributors, which allows us to pump out multiple posts every week. In addition to the Stakeholder News and Reports, GovComms Content involves public call transcriptions, video uploads, metric gathering, and Reddit moderation. Transcriptions are performed by our Summaries Team with the goal to push forward transparency, archive-ability, and searchability of public information, which becomes more important as the forum continues to be increasingly loaded with information. The Stakeholder News & Reports began with only the Maker Relay, Forum at a Glance, Governance Review, and public call transcriptions. Today, about eight months later, content production has doubled, with its quality improved across the board. There are now five recurring pieces of content, twelve public calls transcribed, two COM-001 administered media platforms with corresponding metrics reports, and additional assistance to content such as YouTube video uploading, Reddit moderating, and forum tag management. The Content Team has grown as well. What began with just myself and a handful of part-time contributors under my management now includes a writer and editor, a recognized delegate contributor, a Reddit moderator, seven transcription summarizers, and one quality assurer, all of whom are part-time. The last eight months have only been the beginning; We were all finding our footing and building the support structures for the Content mission, projects, and workflow. Now that the ball started rolling, there is so much more in store, not just for the content side of things but also for Governance Communications as a whole. Below is something of an incremental update to my workflow since the ratification of COM-001. Q3, 2021 - Q1, 2022 The “front-end” defines actions and work that are very visible and public, such as posts, snippets, Twitter posts, and more. The “back-end” defines actions and work which are also public but more involved with planning, management, information collection, research, editing, and procedural work, which takes up the majority of time spent. Current Workflow Most notable changes include additional content production and the training and delegation of content and tasks to our part-time contributors. The delegation of projects and certain tasks allows me more time to step back and focus on improving quality, scaling existing projects, training the team, and working on a strategy to completely level up the entire presentation, delivery, and production of GovComm’s Content. Content Publications Check out the Stakeholder Content | Overview document on its vision, mission, objectives, and roadmap. Weekly Relay: Check out the Weekly Relay | Overview document for information on its mission, objectives, roadmap, and process. Weekly Relay has been our most known publication because it was produced before the ratification of COM-001 and was integrated into our mandate. It is our primary source of “everything that happened in Maker this week.” Ashton, our writer & editor, and I currently create the Weekly Relay. After that, I perform a quality check, create PDF documents, and post them on our media platforms. Current OKRs: Notable Q1 Completions: ● Workforce cut by half while still improving quality of posts ● Added online .pdf links for mobile users and download lovers. ● Onboarded Ashton and now working together on Weekly Relay and other publications. ● Began posting WR on Medium every Tuesday morning: ○ Greater audience reach and more analytics. ● Created the first Weekly Relay | Overview, which is now served as a template for future updates, quarter reviews, and project documentation. ● Improved the posted format into a more compact version with a clickable dropdown summary widget ● Created a Medium account that has avg reading time and engagement rate analytics ○ Two very useful data sets for measuring the value of the projects ○ Began posting FaaG on Medium every Friday morning: ■ Greater audience reach and more analytics. State of Dai: State of Dai was initially included in the Maker Relay prior to the ratification of COM-001. I believe it has the potential to scale into its unique publication providing analytical summaries of Dai activity. The state of Dai is currently produced by Recognized Delegate, Tim Black, and then reviewed and posted on forum and media platforms by myself. Additionally, there is a discussion for improving the strategy behind State of Dai and scaling it into a larger beast. Current OKRs: Notable Q1 Completions: ● Made State of Dai its own publication separate from the Weekly Relay. ● Tim Black began working with Ashton as an additional contributor. ● Development of a more actionable and clarified set of OKRs. Forum at a Glance: Forum at a Glance was passed down to us by GovAlpha during early Q4 of 2022. Since then, I have embraced this publication with my vision and improved it thanks to the feedback from several community members. Ashton, our writer & editor, and I currently create the Weekly Relay. After that, I perform a quality check, create PDF documents, and post on our media platforms. Current OKRs: Notable Q1 Completions: ● Improved the posted format into a more compact version with a clickable dropdown summary widget ● Added online .pdf links for mobile users and download lovers. ● Expanded the comprehensiveness of FaaG into a TL;DR style summary. ● Onboarded Ashton and now working together on FaaG and other publications. ● Created a Medium account that has avg reading time and engagement rate analytics ○ Two very useful data sets for measuring the value of the projects ○ Began posting FaaG on Medium every Friday morning: ■ Greater audience reach and more analytics. Monthly Governance Review: Check out the Monthly Governance Review | Overview document for information on its mission, objectives, roadmap, and process. The Monthly Governance Review was produced before the ratification of COM-001 and was integrated into our mandate. It is our more technical publication because it includes all governance-related votes, polls, and activity over the past month. Currently, only I write the MGR, and David and/or Ashton perform quality assurance. I will be training Ashton to begin contributing to the MGR. Current OKRs: Notable Q1 Completions: ● Improved the posted format into a more compact version with a clickable dropdown summary widget ● Added online .pdf links for mobile users and download lovers. ● Created a Medium account that has avg reading time and engagement rate analytics ○ Two very useful data sets for measuring the value of the projects ○ Began posting FaaG on Medium every Friday morning: ■ Greater audience reach and more analytics. ● Development of a more actionable and clarified set of OKRs. Monthly Core Unit Updates: This project was birthed through the discussion and community need for organization of all Core Unit and Team updates; there are many updates throughout the month, and several Core Units release an update every week. The MCUU was designed to improve searchability and ease of access to Core Unit Updates for each month. This project is relatively new and is still going through its initial kinks and quirks, but its potential is great, along with the services provided by SES and Growth. OKR table is almost done and will be posted up within the next week. Notable Q1 Completions: ● Created a tracking table of all Core Unit Updates, which is now delegated to one contributor ● Added online .pdf links for mobile users and download lovers, which also contains a semi-easy to navigate table of contents ● Added a shortlist table of all Core Unit Update links ● New : improved format and navigation of Core Unit Updates Media Platform Review Media Platform Docs Summary: Stakeholder Content is currently being posted on Twitter, Reddit, and Medium. Forum is our raw source of published information due to its Markdown nature. The Reddit account being used is the /MakerDAO subreddit, which many members also utilize. Twitter and Medium are unique because we have created our accounts, which we can analyze and build specifically towards supporting the Stakeholder Content mission. These accounts are still fairly new and have undergone several strategy tests to improve audience engagement. Check out the Media Platform Strategy documentation for more information on the engagement strategy. Media Platform Analytics Process Media Platform Overview coming soon before the end of Q2, 2022 Notable Q1 Completions: ● Created our own Medium account ● Improved workflow on Twitter and Reddit ○ Improved moderation, scheduled posts, post quality, and more cross-platform announcements Metrics: Collecting metrics has probably been one of the most difficult tasks due to the inability to integrate Google Analytics into many platforms. Additionally, analytics provided on Discourse do not help us identify appropriate data and information to help strategically respond and improve published content. Medium, however, has some valuable metrics such as engagement rate and average read time. Twitter has lately improved its analytics system, which helps provide a little more information that can be valuable if used in conjunction with other metrics. Reddit metrics are only useful on a post-by-post basis because other members also utilize the subreddit; the account does not reflect on the engagement with Stakeholder Content posts. Metrics collection is still a challenge that I am working on and will continue to work on by implementing additional platforms, requesting tech services, and other methods. Metrics strategy is currently under production and overview documentation will be available before the end of Q2, 2022. Notable Q1 Completions: ● Collected and published media platform metrics for Q3-Q4, 2021 ● Revised media strategy for Reddit and Twitter ○ Utilizing a time activity heat map by Reddit, engagement rate analytics from Medium, and more descriptive posts Transcriptions Review Onboarding and Training Call Summaries Tracker Call Summaries Overview (to be updated) Summary: Transcriptions are done for all recurring public calls recorded and posted on the MakerDAO YouTube channel. There have been minor improvements in the quality and process throughout the last several months; transcriptions are more aesthetically pleasing with the improved format, crosslinks, and timestamps separating discussion topics. Additionally, transcriptions have been optimized by implementing an AI speech-to-text software called Otter.ai (which is not perfect but helps reduce time spent during transcriptions), a public tracker sheet, and training a dedicated team of contributors for certain roles. We continue to reduce the time spent per transcription to reduce the cost per transcription summary. Notable Q1 Completions: ● Improved workflow by reducing workforce hours while also improving quality ○ Utilizing otter.ai, YouTube chapters, and slides for improved performance ● Almost the entire summary process is now delegated to a set of contributors ● Discontinued Snippets in exchange for new Medium public call summaries YouTube Uploads I have recently taken oversight in uploading and slightly refining both the Issue Discussion and Governance and Risk Calls. Videos now contain navigatable chapters, an improved ‘about’ section, and a subscribe and playlist ending scene. What’s Ahead? This is probably the most exciting part of this update, announcing plans to improve Stakeholder Content. Delegation of all publications and media platform posts is my number one priority. Writing, editing, posting, and metric analysis alone take up the majority of my time, which can be instead used to perform more macro analysis of the entire Stakeholder Content mission and strategy to scale, reduce the cost of production, and better reach our target audience through improved engagement and accessibility. ● Complete full documentation, overview, written strategy, and improved roadmap for all GovComm’s Content work (that’s over twelve individual documents) ● Integrate an email subscription service for published content ● Expand to other Core Units for resources and collaboration to improve the overall delivery of information to the whole community ● Begin producing more thought pieces related to governance and communication ● Strategically interact more with the community, delegates, and other members ● Assist with the potential future mandate of the Marcomms Core Unit (specifically any website being provided by that Core Unit to include a hub similar to SES but for governance, MKR, and Dai activity summaries) ● Onboard an additional PTE for State of Dai who has experience in markets, DeFi economics, trading, and analytics Feel free to jump into my Content Task Tracker to view current objectives, tasks, and blockers
