KPH - The Coast Station That Came Back From the Dead Commercial Morse in America ended in 1999, and KPH went silent. Then a crew of volunteers refused to accept the ending - and one of history's great call signs breathes again. A century of ships From its early days, KPH served Pacific shipping from the California coast, copying distress calls and traffic through wars, storms and the whole golden age of maritime radio. Night of Nights The Maritime Radio Historical Society keeps the transmitters alive at Point Reyes. Each 12 July - the anniversary of the final commercial transmission - KPH returns to the air, and listeners on several continents copy its Morse once more.
