We have already been encroached upon by new houses that do not fit within our historic neighborhood. These houses are not as affordable as some of the more charming but smaller houses. Those that I have heard are against want to do things to their houses and stay here because they love the neighborhood. However, what they love about the neighborhood is the charming street and character of the neighborhood. That will change as more and more properties are sold and houses torn down and bigger more modern houses are built. As the original Green Hills, we feel very strongly that the old houses should be preserved. Something we have noticed the last 10ish years is the generational change taking place in the neighborhood. As we and others became empty nesters, new residents are “young” families. What a hoot during our recent snow to watch a neighbor’s kids build their first snowman. Their grandparents live down the street. And another neighbor recently rehabbed what was her grandmother’s house. But that dynamic is at risk it appears developers are eager to purchase homes only to raze them to build $2mm to $3mm homes. Not only is it wasteful to destroy perfectly good, historically relevant homes and send the remnants to a landfill, but how many young families can afford that price tag? Couples living in 6000 sq ft homes is not the Green Hills we cherish. Kids waiting for a public school bus is. We enthusiastically support the initiative.
