Some of the individual guidelines are prescriptive, in which case the guideline uses the term “shall”. These are considered Health & Safety critical actions/processes and must be undertaken. Other guidelines us e terms such as “may” or “should”, recognizing that the project team is best placed to determine the most effective manner of implementation. 3 Definitions Term Definition Working at Height: Work in any place where a person could fall a distance liable to cause personal injury, including access to and egress from such a place. Fall Protection: Any equipment, system, or procedure used to prevent or arrest a fall, including collective (guardrails) and personal (harness/lanyard) systems. Edge Protection: Guardrails, toe boards, and barriers installed at open edges to prevent falls of persons or materials. Anchor Point: A secure point of attachment for a fall arrest or restraint system, capable of withstanding the forces applied in the event of a fall. Exclusion Zone: A barricaded area beneath or around work at height activity where unauthorized entry is prohibited to protect against falling objects.
