An abnormal CT scan result means the scan has identified something different from the expected appearance of the body part being examined. This could include inflammation, infection, cysts, kidney stones, fluid accumulation, fractures, internal bleeding or unusual tissue growth. An abnormal finding does not automatically mean cancer or a serious illness. Some findings are harmless, while others may require further investigation with MRI, ultrasound, blood tests or follow-up imaging.
